Elks comes back
PORT ANGELES — Elks earned an impressive 7-6 win over Hi Tech in their final at bat in a match up of second-place Cal Ripken baseball teams.
Trailing 6-5 to begin the sixth inning of last Tuesday’s game, Jake Jacobsen led off with a double, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a failed pick-off attempt to tie the game.
Kolten Corey then reached on a bunt, stole second base and advanced to third on a wild pitch.
With one out, Elks’ Hunter Wright delivered an infield single to score Corey from third on a close play at the plate.
Many Elks players contributed to the win. Not only did Wright have the game-winning hit, but he also was the winning pitcher after tossing a scoreless sixth inning.
Corey made a nice diving catch in the infield, and Connor Bear hit his first career home run with a shot over the left-center field fence.
Jacobsen and Wyatt Hall each scored twice in the game.
Leading Hi-Tech was John Vaara, who hit a towering homer to left field, and Kamron Meadows, who collected two hits, including a double.
