PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles JV softball team won all three games at this year’s Blaine JV Softball Invitational.
The Roughriders beat Anacortes 17-6, Mount Baker 15-1 and Lynden 17-8 Saturday.
Peyton Hefton was the winning pitcher against Anacortes, while Kianna Watson picked up the win against Mount Baker, while Madi Roening and Alijah Johnston hit home runs. Hefton won again against Lynden, while Roening hit her second home run of the day. Nacia Bohman and Kenzie Carney also hit home runs.
12U Majors softball
PORT ANGELES — Jim’s Pharmacy won three games this week in 12U Majors softball action.
Jim’s Pharmacy beat Paint & Carpet Barn 13-7, Boulevard Wellness 14-2 and OLC 6-1.
Against Carpet Barn, pitchers Taylor Worthington and Anne Edwards combined for the win with 11 strikeouts and four walks. Katelynn Glass had a single and an inside the park home run, scoring three times for Paint & Carpet Barn.
Jaeda Elofson, Taylor Worthington, Meadow Robinson all had singles while Anne Edwards contributed 2 singles for Jim’s.
Destiny Smith and Emilee Reid both doubled and scored for Paint & Carpet Barn, while Katelynn Glass singled and had an in the park home run.
Edwards was the winning pitcher in the Boulevard Wellness game. She had four strikeouts in five innings. She also had three singles with four RBIs. Worthington had two singles, two RBIs and scored four times. Jasmine Messinger also had a sacrifice bunt to score a run. Saylah Commerton had a single an an RBI, while Ava-Anne Sheahan also contributed a single.
Sheahan, Edwards, Commerton and Messinger all played strong defensively, according to their coach.
Cheyenne Zimmer pitched all five innings for Boulevard and had five strikeouts. Natalie Robinson singled for Boulevard.
Jim’s winning pitcher in the OLC game was Worthington with 10 strikeouts. She also had a two-run double and single and scored.
Elofson drew two walks and scored twice. Alexis Perry and Meadow Robinson each reached on walks and scored, while Edwards had a single and a run scored.
Rudd pitched all six innings for OLC, with an amazing 18 strikeouts. Alyssa McCallister singled and scored the only run for OLC.
Jim’s Pharmacy is now 6-2.
MayDay tourney
PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles and the Next Door Gastropub Olympic Avalanche Black were winners in the Port Angeles parks and Recreation Department MayDay Roundball Tournament featuring 20 teams from as far away as Courtenay, B.C.
The Olympic Avalanche Black, an eighth-grade team competing at the high school level, beat Peninsula Threat 57-21 in the championship game. The team, which recently won a tournament in Southern California and has been together since the fourth grade, will compete in its final tournament at the Best in the West in Yakima next week.
Port Angeles beat Yetis No. 1, from Courtenay, B.C. (on Vancouver Island north of Nanaimo) 40-31 in overtime.
DRIVE, from Poulsbo, won the boys sixth-grade division, beating Northwest Fierce of Port Townsend 45-31.
In the boys eighth-grade division, the Raiders from Courtenay beat DRIVE 49-39.
