Jim’s upends Tranco 7-5 in softball play
PORT ANGELES — Jim’s Pharmacy won two games last week over Boulevard 5-2 and over previously undefeated Tranco 7-5 in U12 softball action.
The Boulevard game was close to the end. Jim’s Pharmacy took an early lead of 2-0 in the first inning with singles by Anne Edwards, Taylor Worthington and Saylah Commerton. Meanwhile, Jenna McGoff hit a single and score for Boulevard. In the second inning, Estrella Wasinkari drew a walk and scored on a single by Lexi King.
In the fourth inning, Taylor Worthington lead off for Jim’s with a single and scored on a fielder’s choice by Ava-Anne Sheahan. Worthington’s pitching would shut down Boulevard for the next four innings as she totaled 14 strikeouts for the game.
Saylah Commerton walked and Meadow Robinson singled, then both scored in the top of the sixth inning to lock down the win for Jim’s Pharmacy.
Cheyenne Zimmer pitched six innings for Boulevard and had four strikeouts.
Against Tranco, Jim’s Pharmacy got ahead early in the first inning in a back-and-forth battle, with a walk by Edwards, a single by Worthington and a two-run RBI single by Commerton.
In the second inning, Tranco’s Teanna Clark drew a walk and scored on a single by Kate Snook. Tranco would take the lead in the third inning when Zoe Smithson singled and scored on a long home run by Grace Roening.
Worthington tied the game at 3-3 in the fourth inning when she reached on a hard single and scored on Jasmine Messinger’s outfield single.
Jim’s took the lead for good in the top of the fifth inning when the first three batters reached on walks. Abby Kimball and Shayla Partridge both scored on Edwards’ single. Jaeda Elofson scored on a sacrifice fly to right field by Worthington. Edwards would reach home on a fielder’s choice by Commerton.
In the bottom of the fifth, Tranco threatened when Smithson doubled and scored on Clark’s single. Clark would score on a single by Roening.
Taylor Worthington and Anne Edwards both pitched 3 innings each and had 6 strikeouts each for Jim’s. Roening pitched three innings with three strikeouts and Clark pitched the last three innings for Tranco.
Eagles tops Swains
PORT ANGELES — The Eagles pieced together a win over Swains 4-2 last week in Cap Ripken Majors action. Easton Merritt held Swains to two hits in five innings while striking out 10 batters and Kellen Garcelon closed the sixth giving up no hits. Eagles had only one hit in the game, a lead-off double by Tyler Hunter. Eagles was able to capitalize on Swains giving up walks and allowing runners on base from errors.
Lions pin down
PORT ANGELES — Payton King bagged four hits including a triple as Lions defeated Laurel Lanes 14-11 last week in Cal Ripken Majors action.
Lions jumped on the board early with King’s leadoff triple. He scored on a line drive single by Rylan Politika. Politika eventually scored on a fielding error. Later in the inning, Jason Hawes singled, driving in Kason Albaugh and Cole Beeman.
The second inning was also productive for the Lions. A single put King on the bases and Politika walked, before Elisha Dujue’ drove in King with an RBI line drive. In the next at bat, Kai Ferguson hit a three-run home run.
The Lions had 11 hits in the game. King finished 4 for 4 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Dujue’ went 2 for 3 with one RBI and Ferguson 2 for 4 with four RBIs. Politika, Hawes, and Isaiah Cox each singled.
Laurel Lanes capitalized on 12 walks. Colton Romero led Laurel Lanes, batting 3 for 4 with one RBI. Camden Thompson also had a hit and drove in two runs.
Cole Beeman started his first game on the mound for the Lions, going three innings and allowing a run.
