Elks’ pitchers get job done in Cal Ripken win

PORT ANGELES — Pitching helped the Elks win a close one 4-3 over Rotary in Cal Ripken Baseball majors action Monday.

Kolten Corey led the way for Elks on the mound, allowing one run in 5 1/3 innings pitched.

Playing in just his third game, Brandt Perry contributed an RBI and some nice defense to Elks’ cause.

Rotary scored twice in the sixth inning to make it a one-run game, but Hunter Wright came on in relief to secure the win for the Elks.

Jim’s earn shutout

PORT ANGELES — Taylor Worthington struck out 10 batters in her four innings pitched, singled twice and drove in two runs in Jim’s Pharmacy’s 9-0 victory over Boulevard Wellness in 12U softball action.

Saylah Commerton and Ava-Anne Sheahan each had a pair of singles and Anne Edwards also singled for Jim’s.

Cheyenne Zimmer, Jenna McGoff and Jocy Kazlauskas all had singles for Boulevard.

Tranco in tune

PORT ANGELES — Tranco pitchers Grace Roening (eight) and Teagan Clark (five) combined for 13 strikeouts as Tranco beat Olympic Labor Council 8-4.

Zoe Smithson and Lily Halberg both scored twice for Tranco. Clark, Hollie Tietjen, Emmalyn Morris and Lillie Commerree all scored runs in Friday’s game.

For OLC, Peyton Rudd pitched the first four innings and totaled 10 strikeouts. Rudd also hit a grand slam in the fifth inning scoring Naomi Spague, Evy Seelye and Cydne Moore to give her team a 4-2 lead.

Tranco came back in the bottom of the fifth and scored six runs to go ahead 8-4.

Tranco held OLC in the top of the sixth with a Clark strikeout and two defensive plays.

Zoe Smithson went 3 for 4 with a walk and four runs as Tranco beat Boulevard Wellness 9-2 on Saturday.

Roening totaled seven strikeouts in three innings pitched and Clark struck out five in three innings pitched.

Halberg and Roening each totaled three hits and scored a pair of runs.

Teagen Clark went 3 for 4 at the plate and Teanna Clark also had a hit for Tranco.

Jenna McGoff scored twice on a walk and two hits for Boulevard. She also struck out two in four innings pitched. Jocy Kazcauskos came in for two innings and struck out a pair for Boulevard.

Barn doubles Jim’s

PORT ANGELES — Destiny Smith struck out 11 while allowing three hits and eight walks as Paint and Carpet Barn kicked off its 12U softball season with an 8-4 win over Jim’s Pharmacy.

Smith also had two hits and an RBI and scored a run.

Katelynn Glass went 3-for-3 at the plate for Paint and Carpet with a triple, two singles, two runs and two RBIs.

Ciara Cargo-Acosta had two hits and scored twice, while Jaylynn Hofer had a hit and scored twice.

Emily Reed also scored and caught a good game behind the plate for Paint and Carpet.

Anne Edwards struck out eight for Jim’s and Taylor Worthington added six strikeouts.

Ava-Anne Sheaban drove in a pair of runs and scored once for Jim’s, while Jasmine Messinga had a hit, an RBI and a run.

Jaeda Elofson, Worthington and Saylah Commerton also added hits and runs.
