Lions survive Eagles rally
PORT ANGELES — Despite a five-run comeback in the fifth inning by the Eagles, the Lions held on to win 10-8 in Majors baseball last week.
The Lions grabbed an early lead in the bottom of the first, when Kai Ferguson drove in Rylan Politka with a single. Payton King singled then scored when the Eagles attempted to throw Ferguson out stealing second.
The Lions biggest inning came in the second with Ferguson crushing a three-run home run over the fence in left-center. Ferguson ended the game 2 for 2 with four RBIs, a walk and a run scored.
King also had two singles in the game, and Brady Groff collected his first hit as a Lion. Zac Shortridge, Kason Albaugh, and Elisha Dujue’ each contributed hits for the Lions.
Ferguson led the Lions on the mound, pitching two innings, striking out six and giving up one hit. Politika and Cole Beeman tossed an inning, each striking out two and giving up one hit respectively. Dujue’ came in late in the fifth inning, shutting down the Eagles rally with a strike out.
The Eagles’ big fifth inning started with an RBI single by Tayven Walker, a two-run double by Kellen Garcelon and a solo home run by Cole Johnson. Walker finished the game 2 for 4 with two RBIs. Easton Merritt went 2 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI.
The Lions are now 9-1.
Local 155 walks off
PORT ANGELES — Local 155 beat Athletes Choice 10-8 in Olympic Junior Babe Ruth action last week in walk-off fashion.
For Local 155, Isaiah Waterhouse was 3 for 4 with a triple, a run scored and two RBIs. Kaleb Ripley was 3 for 4 and hit a double that drove in Naaman McGuffey for the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.
Derek Bowchop was 2 for 3 with a run scored and an RBI. Also getting hits for Local were Mason Nickovich and Matt Mangano. Local 155’s Seth Messinger executed four sacrifice bunts, including a pair of squeeze bunts to push two runs across the plate.
On the mound, Local 155’s Mason Nicovich and Waterhouse combined for 10 strikeouts.
For Athletes Choice, Wyatt Hall was 4 for 4 with two runs scored. Athletes Choice’s Sean Hanrahan and Tanner Walker scored two runs each. Kamron Meadows, Gunner Volkman, Hunter Robinson and Bryson Morris all had hits for Athlete’s Choice.
