Local 155 holds back Outfitters
FORKS — Local 155 topped Forks Outfitters 9-7 in Olympic Junior Babe Ruth baseball action.
Seth Schofield’s single and steal of second started a four-run first inning for Local in last week’s game.
A base hit by Lucas Jarnagin scored Schofield. Jarnagin later scored on a passed ball.
A two-run single by Mason Nickovich scored Devin Batchelor and Isaiah Waterhouse, who had reach on a single and walk, respectively.
Forks got two runs back in the bottom of the first when Seth Johnson walked, Chance Wilson singled and Reece Blattner rapped a two-run single.
Forks took a 5-4 lead the next inning on a sacrifice fly by Johnson and a two-run double by Wilson.
The lead grew to 6-4 when Rob Anderson tripled and was brought home on an RBI single by Johnson.
Local 155 regained the lead at 7-6 in the top of the fifth.
Singles by Tate Gahimer and Lucas Jarnagin were followed by a two-run triple by Waterhouse. Waterhouse then scored on an RBI single by Nickovich.
Jarnagin came on in relief and pitched a scoreless bottom of the fifth inning.
Local added its final runs in the top of the sixth when Schofield and Gahimer tripled and Gahimer scored on a passed ball.
A bases-loaded walk helped Forks cut the lead to 9-7 with two outs in the bottom of the sixth.
But Schofield came on in relief to get a strikeout to end the frame, and also pitched a 1-2-3 seventh to pick up the save and preserve Jarnagin’s win.
Elks wings Eagles
PORT ANGELES — Damon Gunderson’s pitching and hitting guided Elks to a 6-1 12U Cal Ripken League baseball victory over Eagles.
Gunderson struck out six in four innings on the mound, and also went 3 for 3 at the plate in Tuesday’s game.
Coen Cronk tripled for Elks, while Connor Bear and Joseph Ritchie doubled.
Kaleb Mullen added a clutch base hit according to Elks coach Brian Gunderson.
Trenton Indelicato totaled six strikeouts on the mound for Eagles, while Jordan Shumway was 1 for 2 at the plate and scored Eagles’ lone run.
Elks improved to 11-5 with the win.
Tranco edges Paint
PORT ANGELES — Tranco held back a late rally by Paint & Carpet Barn to win 4-3 in 12U softball action.
Tranco held a 4-0 lead entering the fourth inning, with runs coming on base hits by Zoe Smithson, Lillie Commeree and Camille Stensgard.
Paint’s Destiny Smith walked to open the fourth and scored on a lined shot to right-center field by Emilee Reid.
Savannah Bray singled to lead off bottom of the sixth, followed by a walk by Katelynn Glass.
Reid racked up another liner to the outfield, scoring two, but Stensgard tagged Reid out at second base.
Teagan Clark closed out the game by fielding a grounder at first base to bump Tranco’s record to 12-2.
Grace Roening pitched a complete game for Tranco, striking out five while allowing three runs on three hits and three walks.
Smith also went the distance for Paint, striking out 11, while allowing four runs on five hits and two walks.
Rowers take third
VANCOUVER, Wash. — Port Angeles High School freshman Daniel Weaver and Nathan Mishler earned a bronze medal in the men’s novice double for the Olympic Peninsula Rowing Association at the U.S. Rowing Northwest Youth Championships.
Weaver and Mishler took third by finishing the timed finals in 8 minutes, 34.086 seconds.
Nine Olympic Peninsula Rowing Association athletes competed in ten events at the Northwest Championships, which was attended by 658 entries from 28 rowing clubs from throughout the region.
Weaver also placed third in his preliminary heat in the men’s novice single.
Mishler teamed up with Gabe Wegener to take sixth in the men’s varsity double preliminary heat.

■ Emily Sirguy and Jessica Arnold, fifth in women’s novice double preliminary heat.
