Kiwanis holds off KONP in 16U softball
PORT ANGELES — Kiwanis defeated KONP 7-2 to improve to 2-0 in 16U softball play.
Aeverie Politika pitched a complete game Saturday, allowing three hits and four walks.
Losing pitcher Izzy Dennis was just as effective, giving up six hits and walking only one batter over six innings.
In the first inning, Kiwanis scored two runs. Leadoff batter Aiyanna Jackson singled, then stole second base and scored on a hit by Politika.
Politika stole both second and third before scoring on a fielder’s choice.
KONP scored one run in bottom of first, but with the bases loaded, Politika fanned two batters to end the threat.
In top of second, Jazzmine Cottam walked, stole second and scored on a single by Linaea Bower.
Bower later scored on a single by Amaris Martinez to take a 4-1 lead.
Politika struck out the side in bottom of the second inning.
KONP scored its second run in bottom of third when Grace Baillargeon singled and scored on a fielder’s choice.
The game then became a pitchers’ duel, but Kiwanis managed to squeeze out just three more runs.
Summer Olsen came on to pitch the seventh inning in relief of Dennis.
Aiyanna Jackson robbed Baillargeon, snagging a hard line drive at third base to end the sixth inning.
Teammates also played strong defense for Kiwanis.
Paint and Carpet wins
PORT ANGELES — Paint and Carpet Barn 12U softball won its second game of the season by defeating Tranco Transmission 14-9.
Tranco scored six runs in the first, two in the third and one in the fourth, racking up four hits and nine base on balls in Saturday’s game.
Paint and Carpet, meanwhile, had two runs in the first, four in the second, six in the third and two in the fourth.
The team finished with seven hits and 14 walks.
Jada Cargo earned the win, while Lucah Folden and Emma Olsen each collected two hits for Paint and Carpet Barn.
Tranco was led by Emi Halberg with two hits and Teagan Clark with two runs.
Tranco also received solid pitching from Grace Roening in the loss.
Labor beats Jim’s
PORT ANGELES — Katie Lau and Anna Petty combined for 11 strikeouts in Olympic Labor Council’s 23-20 win over Jim’s Pharmacy in 10U softball action.
Cydne Moore and Peyton Rudd went 2 for 3 at the plate Saturday, with Rudd tallying a pair of doubles, for Olympic Labor Council.
For Jim’s Pharmacy, Taylor Worthington was 2 for 3 with a double, Katrina Gregory was 2 for 3 with a triple and Anne Edwards was 2 for 3 with a double and a triple.
Local wins 10-8
PORT ANGELES — Local 155 beat Forks Outfitters 10-8 at Volunteer Field in Olympic Junior Babe Ruth baseball play.
Local smacked eight hits in Saturday’s win. Brady Shimko had three of those hits and scored two runs, Devin Bachelor had two hits and one run, Montgomery Bullock had two hits and scored once, Tate Gamimer had one hit and three runs, Lucas Jarnagin had one hit and Seth Schofield scored two runs.
On the mound for Local, Scofield picked up the win by striking out four and giving up only one hit in four innings before giving way to Jarnagin, Dereck Bowechop and then Gamimer to close out the win.
