YOUTH SPORTS: Avalanche conquer Best in the West tourney

OAB champs of Best in the West hoops tourney

YAKIMA — The Next Door Gastropub Olympic Avalanche Black won the 31st annual AAU Best in the West tournament in its final tournament together.

The eighth-grade girls will be playing high school basketball beginning next year.

The OAB girls went undefeated in the tourney, winning three games in pool play Friday and Saturday at the 16-team Best of the West. OAB first beat the NW Stars White Lake of Oswego, Ore. 48-24, then beat Spokane Hustle 35-32 and the Yakima Wildcats 57-21.

In the quarterfinals on Sunday, OAB beat Yakima Swish 56-50, then beat Pinnacle Hoops 60-47 in the semifinals.

In the championship game Sunday, OAB beat NW Stars Red Lake Oswego again 36-24.
