YOUTH BASKETBALL: Trio of local teams win at Presidents Day tourney

PORT ANGELES — Teams from Port Angeles, Sequim and Neah Bay won their division’s championships at the Port Angeles Parks and Recreation’s Red Lion Presidents’ Day youth basketball tournament this past weekend.

The Coastal Natives from Neah Bay won the girls’ sixth-grade division, while Port Angeles won the boys’ fourth-grade division and the Sequim Wolves won the boys’ fifth-grade division.

A total of 55 teams from all around Washington and one team from Victoria, B.C., participated in the tournament in nine divisions.

The Port Angeles fourth-grade boys won the Presidents Day Classic this past weekend, beating Bainbridge Island 30-29 in the championship game. • Girls Fifth-Grade Division — Bonney Lake, first; Meadowdale Lady Mavs Blue, second; Port Angeles, third; Meadowdale Lady Mavs White, fourth; Port Townsend Crush Select, fifth; Sequim Wolves, sixth, Mount Baker Mountaineers, seventh; Aberdeen Bobcats, eighth.

Championship game: Lady Mavs Blue 42, Bonney Lake 17.

• Girls Sixth-Grade Division — Coastal Natives (Neah Bay), first; Port Angeles Elite, second; Meadowdale Lady Mavs, third; Sequim Wolves, fourth.

Championship game: Coastal Natives 30, Port Angeles Elite 28.

• Girls Seventh-Grade Division — Meadowdale Lady Mavs, first; Burlington-Edison Tigers, Baingridge Roots, third; Mount Baker, fourth; Port Angeles Fire & Ice, fifth; Sequim Wolves, sixth; Victoria Heat, seventh.

Championship Game, Lady Mavs 37, Burlington-Edison 30.

• Girls Eighth-Grade Division — Splash Sisters, first; Port Angeles Threat, second; Bonney Lake, third.

No title game.

• Boys Fourth-Grade Division — Port Angeles, first; Bainbridge Roots, second; Sequim Wolves, third; Crush Select (Port Townsend), fourth.

Championship game: Port Angeles 30, Roots 29.

• Boys Fifth-Grade Division — Sequim Wolves, first; Forks Rebels, second; Port Angeles White, third; Arlington Swish, fourth; Port Angeles White, fifth; Port Angeles Green, sixth; Mount Baker, seventh.

Championship game: Sequim Wolves 40, Forks Rebels 35.

• Boys Sixth-Grade Division — Mountlake Terrace Hawks, first; Mount Baker, second; North Mason Bulldogs, third; Sedro-Woolley Spider Monkeys, fourth; Port Angeles Green, fifth; Port Angeles White, sixth; Drive Basketball (Poulsbo), seventh; Sedro-Woolley Outlaws, eighth.

Championship game Mountlake Terrace Hawks 42, Mount Baker 31.

• Boys Seventh-Grade Division — Marysville-Getchell, first; Drive Blue, second; Port Angeles White, third; Sequim Wolves, fourth; WIT Hoops (Forks), fifth; Mount Baker, sixth; Drive White, seventh; Port Angeles Green, eighth.

Championship game: Marysville-Getchell 59, Drive Blue 40.

• Boys Eighth-Grade Division — Mount Vernon, first; Port Angeles White, second; Sequim Wolves, third; Bainbridge Roots, fourth; Port Angeles Green, fifth; Drive, sixth; Bremerton Knights, seventh.

Championship game: Mount Vernon 68, Port Angeles White 53.
