YOUTH BASKETBALL: Area teams win at Port Angeles’ Martin Luther King Jr. hoops tournament

PORT ANGELES — Two local teams won their divisions at the 73-team Martin Luther King Jr. Classic Youth Basketball Tournament held in Port Angeles this past weekend.

The tournament, sponsored by the Port Angeles Parks and Recreation Department, attracted teams from as far away as Bellingham and Tacoma.

Winning their divisions were the Sequim Wolves in the boys’ fifth-grade division and the Port Angeles Elite in the girls’ fourth-fifth grade division.

Complete results include:

• Boys fourth grade division — Lakewood Select, first; Bainbridge Roots, second; Forks Rebels, third; Port Angeles Green, fourth; Port Angeles White, fifth; Silverdale Spartans, sixth; Mount Baker, seventh; South Kitsap Elite, eighth.

Championship Game: Lakewood 44, Roots 39.

• Boys fifth grade division — Sequim Wolves, first; Bainbridge Roots, second; Gig Harbor, third; Tides Select; North Mason Bulldogs, fourth; Mount Baker, fifth; Port Angeles, sixth; LaPush Ball Stars, seventh; Lakewood Select, eighth.

Championship Game: Sequim 39, Roots 26.

• Boys 6th Grade Division — D-Block Hoops (Bellingham), first; Bainbridge Roots Navy, second; Sequim Wolves, third; Dream Team NW (Tacoma), fourth; Lakewood Select, fifth; Port Angeles Green, sixth; Gig Harbor Tides Silver, seventh; Gig Harbor Tides Gold, eighth; Drive (Poulsbo), ninth; Mount Baker, 10th; Bainbridge Roots Gold, 11th; Port Angeles White 12th.

Championship Game: D-Block 42, Roots Navy 33.

Boys 7th Grade Division — Kamiak, first; Mountlake Terrace Hawks, second; Lakewood Select third; D-Block Hoops, fourth; Port Angeles, fifth; Sequim Wolves, sixth; Bainbridge Roots, seventh; Silverdale Spartans, eighth.

Championship Game: Kamiak 48, Mountlake Terrace 36.

Boys 8th Grade Blue Division — D-Block Hoops, first; Mount Vernon, second; Stanwood, third; Gig Harbor Tides, fourth; Kamiak fifth.; Burlington Tigers, sixth; Bainbridge Roots, seventh; Drive, eighth; Sequim Wolves, ninth; Lakewood Select, 10th; Mount Baker, 11th; Port Angeles, 12th.

Championship Game: D-Block 47, Mount Vernon 41.

Girls 4-5th Grade Division — Port Angeles Elite, first; Meadowdale Lady Mavs 4, second; Meadowdale Lady Mavs 5, third; Forks Spartans, fourth; Bainbridge Roots, fifth.

Girls 6th Grade Purple Division — Meadowdale Lady Mavs, first; Lakewood Select, second; Bainbridge Roots Navy, third; Port Angeles Fire & Ice, fourth; Sequim Wolves, fifth; Bainbridge Roots Gold, sixth; Port Angeles Hurricane, seventh.

Championship Game: Lady Mavs 52, Lakewood 22.

Girls 7th Grade Division — Meadowdale Lady Mavs, first; Port Angeles Threat, second; Lakewood Select, third; Sequim Wolves, fourth; Mount Baker, fifth.

Girls 8th Grade Division — Stanwood Spartans, first; Meadowdale Lady Mavs, second; Neah Bay, third; Kitsap United, fourth; Sequim Wolves, fifth; Forks Spartans, sixth; Port Angeles Apex, seventh; Bainbridge Roots, eighth.

Championship Game: Stanwood 46, Meadowdale 17.
