Local 155 shuts down Swain’s 8-4
PORT ANGELES — Local 155 came from behind and doubled up Swain’s 8-4 in an Olympic Junior Babe Ruth contest at Volunteer Park on Thursday.
It was a pitchers’ duel through the first two innings with Local starter Eli Cyr and Swain’s starter Adam Watkins allowing only two runners to reach base and tossing five strikes combined.
Trailing 4-1 midway through the fifth inning, Local tied it up with three runs in the bottom half of the inning, followed by four more in the sixth.
Local 155 reliever Chastain Richardson logged a strong performance in four innings of work allowing just one run, one walk and tossed four strikeouts. Local played great defense booking 14 putouts lead by Naaman McGuffey locking down third with four ground ball outs.
Mason Nickovich lead the way offensively for Local with two hits and two runs scored. Richardson reached base twice on walks and scored two runs. Scoring one run each for Local was Cyr, Matt Magano, Kaleb Ripley and Kole Acker.
For Swain’s Tanner Price had two hits and two runs scored, Eljah Flodstrom, John Vaara and Brantyn Fisler each had one hit.
Local beats First Federal
PORT ANGELES — Matt Magano and Kaleb Ripley had three hits and scored two runs apiece and Mason Nickovich struck out eight in three innings on the mound for Local 155 in an 8-6 Olympic Junior Babe Ruth win over First Federal.
Nikko Ross added two hits and a run for Local, while Nickovich, Eli Cyr and Chastian Richardson each had one hit.
First Federal’s Seth Woods had two hits, scored twice and drove in a pair of runs.
Damon Gunderson, Jake Felton, Logan Beebe and Derek Sparks all had hits for First Federal.
Naamin McGuffy followed Nickovich for Local and Eli Cyr picked up the save.
Lions down Elks 18-11
PORT ANGELES — Lions topped Elks 18-11 in an offensive slugfest in Cal Ripken Jr. Majors baseball action Thursday.
Lions jumped into an early lead with four runs in the top of the first, but Elks answered with five runs, highlighted by a solid RBI double by Weston Alward.
Lions took the lead for good in the top of the fifth, when Brady Groff singled, driving in three runs to break a 9-all tie.
Lions collected 14 hits from seven different players. Six Elks sluggers combined for 10 hits in the high-scoring affair. Lions had two back-to-back home runs in the top of the third including an out-of-the-park dinger by Jason Hawes who (through Thursday) leads the league with two home runs.
Aiden Swenson contributed a deep in-the-park home run.
For Lions, Groff went 3 for 5 with three runs, Swenson went 3 for 4 with four runs, Hawes went 2 for 4 with two runs and Kyler Seelye went 2 for 3 with two runs.
For Elks, Reid Schmidt was 2 for 4 with three runs, Tanner Jacobson 2 for 4 with two runs and Lincoln Bear was 2 for 4 with two runs.
Boulevard wins pair
PORT ANGELES — Jocy Kazlauskas homered as part of a 4 for 4 night at the plate in Boulevard Wellness’ 16-3 12U major softball victory over Olympic Labor Council.
Boulevard’s Lexi King went 4 for 4 and scored each time she reached base in the win.
Olympic Labor Council’s Josephine Edgington struck out five in two innings on the mound.
Boulevard also shutout Paint & Carpet Barn 18-0. Cheyenne Zimmer and Kazlauskas had four strikeouts in two innings pitched.
Kiwanis wins first
PORT ANGELES — Anna Brandt reached base four times, two on hits, and scored four runs as Kiwanis earned its first 16U softball win of the season in a 16-6 win over KONP on Tuesday.
Emilee Reed and Rianne Rodocker also notched hits for Kiwanis (1-2).
Savanna Bray, Grace Roening and Brittany Clark all hit for KONP.
