SULTAN — Port Townsend picked up two championships at the Sky Valley Tournament last weekend.

Dylan Tracer won the 182-pound weight division while Kyle Caldwell, a Chimacum wrestler wrestling for Port Townsend, won the 195-pound division.

Carter Swartout also placed third at 120 pounds.

Port Townsend next wrestles at the Matman Classic at Central Kitsap High School on Saturday.

Forks at Gut Check Challenge

BREMERTON — In a meet featuring 64 teams from three states, Forks placed two wrestlers at the Gut Check Challenge with Spartan Luke Dahlgren having the best weekend.

Forks coach Bob Wheeler described this as the toughest overall tournament in the state. The Gut Check Challenge includes teams from Nevada and Idaho.

Dahlgren, wrestling at 285 pounds, went 5-1, winning four matches by pins, and made it to the semifinals of his weight class. The only match he lost was by a 4-2 decision to Isaiah Perez of Othello, a 2A school, who went on to win the championship. Dahlgren went on to win his last two matches, both by pins, to finish third.

Forks’ Eden Cisneros went 4-2, winning three matches with pins, in the tournament and finished seventh at 220 pounds.

Andres Santos-Delacruz made it to the second day of the tournament, going 2-2 at 113 pounds.

“He actually had a very good tournament, and I am hoping this will give him confidence for the future,” Wheeler said.

Forks has its first Evergreen 1A League meet at home Wednesday against Elma and Montesano beginning at 5 p.m. against Elma and 6:30 p.m. against Montesano.

Port Angeles at Bearcat Invite

CHEHALIS — Scott Hedin of Port Angeles placed second at 113 pounds at the Bearcat Invite held at WF West High School.

Hedin took his opponent, Juan Gaspar of Centralia to sudden victory overtime in the championship bout. Gaspar won on points 6-4.

After a long break from league meets, the Roughriders return to Olympic League 2A Division grappling at Bremerton on Thursday. The Riders (3-0) are undefeated in league so far. Bremerton is 1-1.
