WRESTLING: Port Townsend’s Tracer wins at Klahowya meet

SILVERDALE — Port Townsend’s Dylan Tracer won his 182-pound weight division with a pin over Forks’ Shane Queen at the Keigan Langholff Memorial Wrestling Meet at Klahowya High School.

Port Townsend, Forks and Port Angeles wrestlers (Forks and Port Angeles were both coming off clinching their respective league championships while Port Townsend tied with Klahowya in the Olympic League 1A Division) were at the meet. While Tracer was the only area grappler to win his weight division, several area wrestlers placed and made it to the championship bouts in their weight divisions, but Tracer was the only champion.

“Dylan went through two state-ranked wrestlers to get first,” said Port Townsend coach Steve Grimm.

Tracer and Queen both wrestle at 1A schools, so it’s possible they could meet again at the 1A Mat Classic.

Steve Grimm said the Redhawks only brought six wrestlers, but that three of them made the finals in their weight classification. One, Kyle Caldwell, lost his 195-pound championship match 7-6.

Port Townsend ending up just edging Forks in points. The Redhawks finished ninth with 91.0 points, while Forks, which didn’t bring all its wrestlers, was 10th with 77 points and Port Angeles 11th with 44 points.

Selah, a 2A school, won the event with 221 points.

Making it to the championship bouts and finishing second were:

Gabe Petrick, Port Townsend, 160 pounds.

Brett Moody, Forks, 170 pounds.

Queen, Forks, 182 pounds.

Caldwell, Port Townsend, 195 pounds.

Tristan Pisani, Forks, 220 pounds.

Other wrestlers that placed include:

Cru Demorest, Forks, 138 pounds, fourth.

Bryan Elena, Forks, 160 pounds, fourth.

Josh Boe, PAs, 126 pounds, sixth.

Zach Gavin, PA, 138 pounds, sixth.

Ian Linn, PT, 145 pounds, sixth.

Grant Abrams, PA, 152 pounds, sixth.

Leslie Worthey, PA, 220 pounds, sixth.

Meanwhile, Port Townsend’s Brenna Franklin finished second at 170 pounds at the Auburn Tournament, winning two bouts on her way to the championship match.

Postseason begins for all three strong teams this week. Port Townsend will begin its postseason run at Olympic 1A subregionals Saturday at Klahowya. Port Angeles will wrestle at the Olympic 2A subregionals Friday and Saturday at Port Angeles High School. Forks will wrestle at the Evergreen 1A subregionals on Saturday.
