SILVERDALE — Port Townsend’s Dylan Tracer and Kyle Caldwell each earned tournament championships at Klahowya’s Keigan Langholff Memorial wrestling tournament.
Four other Redhawks finished second at Saturday’s event as Port Townsend finished sixth overall at the 15-team tournament.
“We only had seven boys counting toward team points because we had multiple 170- and 220-pound wrestlers,” Redhawks coach Steve Grimm said. “Four boys in the finals was quite an accomplishment. And both our girls got a medal. They are young but continue to excel.”
Tracer went 4-0 on the day in the 182-pound bracket, earning three first round pins to qualify for the championship final before defeating Selah’s Donald Schmidt by a 16-6 majority decision.
Caldwell, a Chimacum wrestler who competes for Port Townsend, went 3-0 at 195. He pinned Port Angeles’ Lance Menes 32 seconds into their quarterfinal match, earned a 13-3 major decision win over Sequim’s Isaiah Cowan and picked up a pin at 2:59 of the second round against Gig Harbor’s Will Weymire.
Robbie Collier, another Cowboys student competing for Port Townsend, finished second at 170.
Port Townsend’s Logan Massie lost via an 18-3 technical fall to nationally ranked Bremerton wrestler Thor Michaelson in their 145-pound final.
Chloe Lampert was second for the Redhawk girls. Lampert pinned Port Angeles’ Lily Halberg in the quarterfinals and Chief Sealth’s Eden Lopez to reach the finals, but was pinned at 3:44 by Klahowya’s Alonna Armstrong in their 130-pound match.
Savannah Hoffman also placed second for Port Townsend at 115 pounds.
The Redhawks also won three dual meets last week, besting Cascade Christian 24-6, Bellevue Christian 32-12 and Kingston 36-0.
PA, Forks, Sequim
Port Angeles ended up 11th, a small Forks contingent was 12th and Sequim 14th in team results.
Port Angeles’ best finish was turned in by Adam Borde, the runner-up at 138 pounds. Borde went 3-1 on the day, earning a 21-5 technical fall over Klahowya’s Wyatt Horne in his opening match, following up with a 16-0 technical fall over the Eagles’ Nikolai Jensen and earning a spot in the finals with a 6-4 decision against Bremerton’s Diego Clemen.
Borde was bested in the final on a 17-7 major decision loss to Bryson Anderson of Orting.
Halberg came home with a third-place finish in the girls 130 division after pinning Sequim’s Alexi Ramp-Taft at 1:33.
Forks sent a smaller contingent of boys and girls to the tournament and finished 13th as a team. Dalton Kilmer reached the 126-pound boys final but was pinned at 1:42 of the championship match by Selah’s Evan Anderson to place second.
Connor Demorest was fourth at 106 and Hector Dominguez ended up sixth.
Brenna King went 2-2 to finish fourth for Forks in the girls 145-pound weight class.
Cowan and Ramp-Taft were Sequim’s highest placers, with fourth-place finishes.
The wrestling postseason begins Friday and Saturday with sub-regional tournaments around Western Washington.
Forks does host the Evergreen League Sub-Regional, its lone home match of the season, at 10 a.m. Saturday.
