WRESTLING: Port Angeles second, Sequim third at Olympic sub-regionals

BELFAIR — Port Angeles came in second and Sequim third at the Olympic League 2A Sub-Regional held at North Mason High School.

Olympic won this weekend’s sub-regional with 281.5 points. The Roughriders ended with 243 points while the Wolves had 224.

Sequim got three first-place finishes, while Port Angeles had eight wrestlers who made the finals. Winning their weight classes were Port Angeles’ Bryce Lauderback at 195 pounds and Sequim’s Austin Budd at 170 pounds, Adrian Klarich at 182 pounds and McKenzie Stockdale at 220 pounds.

Port Angeles had a total of 11 boys qualify and Sequim nine for the Regionals, which will be held Saturday at Blaine High School.

Other Port Angeles wrestlers placing and advancing to Regionals are: Dan Basden, second, 113 pounds; Cody Anderson, second, 120 pounds; Ben Basden, second, 138 pounds; Caleb Joslin, second, 152 pounds; Thomas Blevins, second, 170 pounds; Jace Lausche, second, 182 pounds; Bailey White, second, 220 pounds; Hayden Wickham, second, heavyweight; Rudy Valdez, fourth, 145 pounds; Masson Coppage, fourth, 195 pounds.

Other Sequim wrestlers placing and advancing to Regionals are: Grant Pierson, second, 160 pounds; Dylan Perreira, second, 195 pounds; Chris Putka, third, 138 pounds; Dalton Brown, fourth, 113 pounds; Ben Newell, fourth, 132 pounds; Mason Larsen, fourth, 285 pounds.

Girls’ Sub-Regionals

SEQUIM — In the girls’ District C 1A/2A Sub-Regionals, Sequim came in third place, while Port Townsend came in fifth.

Yelm won the event with 242 points, while Lakes had 110.5, Sequim 89, Wilson 87.5 and Port Townsend 73.5. Port Angeles had 25 points and finished 16th. A total of 24 schools participated in the Friday and Saturday meet at Sequim High School.

Several girls from Port Angeles, Sequim and Port Townsend qualified for Regionals.

Finishing second in their weight classes were: Ally Bradley, Port Townsend; Kiara Pierson, Sequim, 120 pounds; Alyssa Sweet, Port Angeles 130 pounds; Aylee Bennett, Sequim, 140 pounds; Alma Mendoza, Sequim, 155 pounds and Brenna Franklin, Port Townsend, 170 pounds.

Finishing third was Kalista Hill of Port Townsend at 135 pounds. Veda Dosey of Port Townsend at 140 pounds finished fourth and Madison Uranga, Sequim, 190 pounds, also finished fourth.

Regionals begin Friday at Decatur High School in Federal Way.

Port Townsend, Chimacum boys

VASHON — The Port Townsend boys’ wrestling team finished fourth and Chimacum sixth at the 1A West-Central District 3 Sub-Regional.

Klahowya won the event with 304.5 points. Vashon was second with 179.5; Cascade Christian, third, 155.0; Port Townsend, fourth, 119.0; Bellevue Christian, fifth, 116.5 and Chimacum, sixth, 36.

Port Townsend’s Jacob Massie won his 285-pound weight division, beating his teammate Tucker Booth with a pin in the finals.

Chimacum’s Cody McClain won his 220-pound weight division, while his teammate Ryan Caldwell was second at 182 pounds.

Three other Port Townsend wrestlers finished second in their weight classes — Jesus Duran at 132 pounds, Henry Veitenhaus at 145 pounds and Gabe Petrick at 160 pounds.

Port Townsend’s Carter Swartout finished fourth at 106 pounds and Redhawk Dylan Tracer was fourth at 160 pounds to also qualify for Regionals, which will begin Saturday at Hoquaim.
