WRESTLING: Port Angeles places second at Kelso invite

KELSO — The Port Angeles Roughriders wrestling team responded to its first Olympic League dual loss in nearly three years by finishing second at the Dave Holter Invitational.

Only host Kelso, with 197 points, beat out the Roughriders, who finished with 181.5 points.

Senior Ozzy Swagerty won the 126-pound weight class and was voted most outstanding lightweight wrestler at Saturday’s invitational.

He was one of three champions for Port Angeles, which had seven wrestlers finish in the top four in their respective brackets.

Tyler Gale was the 106-pound champion and Brady Anderson won the 120-pound class.

Matt Robinson placed second at 182 pounds, Kyle La Fritz second at 220, Roberto Coronel second at 285 and Evan Gallacci was fourth in the 195-pound division.

Port Angeles coach Erik Gonzalez named Gale, a sophomore, as the team’s wrestler of the week.

“Tyler pinned all four of his opponents this week, including in the finals at the Kelso Tournament,” Gonzalez said.

“His overall record is now 20-3 and he continues to maintain all As and Bs in his classes.”
