WRESTLING: PA sends 12 to regionals; Forks dominates subregionals

SEQUIM — Port Angeles wrestlers came in third at the Olympic League 2A Subregionals this weekend, sending a total of 12 wrestlers to regionals at North Mason High School on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Sequim boys came in sixth and will be sending five wrestlers to regionals.

The Roughriders had five wrestlers finish second in their weight classes — Kenny Soule (152 pounds), Riley Gale (160), Carson Jackson (170), Dom Timperio (195) and Bailey White (220). Finishing third were Scott Hedin at 106 pounds and Daniel Basden at 120.

Roughriders finishing fourth were Adam Borde (120) and Corey Danielson (182). All these wrestlers in the top four positions qualify for regionals. Qualifying as alternates as fifth-place finishers were Grant Abrams (145), Josh Boe (113) and Jaymisson Morrison (195).

For Sequim, qualifying for regionals were third-place finishers Jamie Schroepfer (132), Ben Newell (138) and Chris Puksta (152). Logan Laxson finished fourth at 170 pounds and Noah Eveland finished fourth at 285, also making regionals.

Among the girls, Port Angeles’ Shay Shayla came in fifth at the subregionals held at Thomas Jefferson High School and will move on to regionals. Among the Sequim girls, Aleah Chen finished fourth at 155 pounds, while Madison Uranga finished fifth at 190 to move on to regionals. Megan Puksta finished seventh at 130 pounds.

Forks cruises

CENTRALIA — The Forks boys completely controlled the Evergreen 1A Subregionals, winning six weight classes and winning the meet as a team more than 100 points.

Forks will send a big contingent of 20 wrestlers to regionals as the Spartans tallied 447 team points to second-place Montesano’s 324.5.

Winning their weight classes were Josue Lucas (106), Ariel Morales (126), Keith Thompson (132), Colby Demorest (160), Luke Dahlgren (220) and Nathan Flores (285).

In four of these championship bouts, Forks wrestlers actually went up against each other for the weight title, showing how much the Spartans dominated subregionals.

Finishing second were Cru Demorest (120), Colton Duncan (126), Hayden Baker (132), Brett Moody (160), Shane Queen (170), Eden Cisneros (195) and Tristan Pisani (220).

Spartans finishing third were Wesley Gonzalez-Camacho (120), Bryan Elena (182) and Thomas Jackson (285). Fourth-place finishers were Andres Santos-Delacruz (113), Luis Perez (138) and Keith Kullander (145). Finishing fifth was Caleb Peters at 195 pounds. He will go to regionals as an alternate.

Among the Spartan girls, their top finishers were Karen Ensastegui-Salazar (100) and Marissa Bailey (110), who each came in third place in their weight classes and they will move on to regionals. Annhelica Wells finished fifth at 105 pounds while Marbella Ramirez picked up a sixth place at 145 pounds.

Port Townsend solid

VASHON — Port Townsend and Chimacum wrestlers won in three weight classes and will be sending eight wrestlers to regionals at their Olympic/Niqually 1A subregional meet.

Wrestlers winning their weight classes were Dylan Tracer (170), Kyle Caldwell (195) and Tucker Booth (285). Coming in second were Ryan Caldwell (182) and Gabe Petrick (160).

Carter Swartout finished third at 113 pounds, while Jesus Duran (132) and Odin Smith (152) were fourth.

These wrestlers all move on to regionals at Klahowya High School on Saturday.

The Caldwell brothers both wrestle for Chimacum, which trains and is coached along with the Port Townsend team. But, once the postseason begins they are wrestling for Chimacum.

Overall, Port Townsend finish third out of seven schools at the meet, while Chimacum, which has a small contingent, finished seventh.

For the girls, Port Townsend finished seventh out of 40 schools at its subregionals.

Brenna Franklin won her weight class at 155 pounds, while Veda Dosey (140) and Kalista Hill (135) each came in third. Ally Bradley came in fourth at 105 pounds. These girls all move on to regionals Saturday at Decatur High School.
