WRESTLING: Forks wins Kalama tournament

KALAMA — The Forks wrestling team picked up five first-place finishes and took first place as a team at the Kalama Rubber Chicken tournament this weekend.

Forks won with 255.0 points, well ahead of second-place Castle Rock at 147.0. A total of 10 1A and 2B schools competed in the meet.

The Spartans got first-place finishes from Dalton Kilmer (132 pounds), Walker Wheeler (138), Jake Weakley (152), Hayden Queen (182) and Sloan Tumaua (220).

A number of other Spartans also placed well in their weight divisions.

Finishing second were Abraham Montealegre (106), Bryan Lucas (120), Walker Rondeau (132), Aiden Ivey (160) and Nate Dahlgren (170).

Other Forks placers include:

Third — Jesus Garcia-Dominguez (113), Jon Parker Jr. (170), Hector Dominguez (285).

Fourth — Kevin Camacho-Roldan (138), Gunner Rogers (170).

Fifth — Peyton Johnson (113), Sebastian Qunneke (182).

Sixth — Alexis Koskela (113), Kaleb Blanton (152).

PA, EJ, Sequim at End of Days

LAKEWOOD — A huge group of Olympic Peninsula wrestlers made it to the championship matches in their weight divisions at the End of Days Tournament held at Lakes High School this weekend.

The big winner was Devon Bennett-Anderson of East Jefferson, who won his 195-pound weight division with a pin over a Mount Rainier (a 4A school) wrestler, Gabriel Mose.

Six other Peninsula grapplers finished second in their weight divisions.

Port Angeles, which had nine wrestlers place, finished sixth at the meet with 112 points, while East Jefferson came in eighth with 95 points and Sequim 10th with 62 points. A total of 14 teams competed with Central Kitsap, a 3A school, winning with 161.5 points.

Making it to their championship matches and finishing second were:

Cayden Beauregard, Sequim, 106 pounds; Cash Coleman, Port Angeles, 113; Phoenix Flores, PA, 126; Jack Harrelson, PA, 138; Logan Massie, EJ, 170; Gage Barry, EJ, 182.

Other area wrestlers who placed include:

Fourth — Raymond Rodriguez, PA, 126; Sam Fitzgerald, Sequim 132; Ethan Abrams, PA, 138; Zach Gavin, PA, 152; Thomas Arand, PA, 182; Lance Menes, PA, 220; Zan Miller, PA, 220; and Lars Wakefield, EJ, 285.

Sixth — Sean Lyman, PA, 126; Brandon Linson, Sequim, 138; and Ari Skov, Sequim, 170.

Bernsten second at Lady Lancers

LAKEWOOD — Several Olympic Peninsula girls placed at the Lady Lancers Tournament this weekend, with Sequim’s Petra Bernsten making it to her weight division’s championship match.

Bernsten finished second at 140 pounds, getting three straight pins to make it to the championship match, where she was pinned by a Chief Sealth (a 3A school) wrestler, Delaney Graves.

East Jefferson had the best showing, coming in 16th with 43.5 points. Port Angeles finished 20th with 41 points and Sequim 21st with 40 points.

Port Angeles’ Natalie Johnson finished fourth at 105 pounds while East Jefferson’s Mi Amanda Lanpher-Ramirez came in fourth at 115 pounds. East Jefferson’s Melody Douglas won three matches to gain 10 points for her team.

Coming in sixth were Zakara Braun, PA, 105 pounds; Jordan Hegtvedt, Sequim, 115; Faye Dachs, PA, 120; Savanna Hoffman, EJ, 125; Kennedy Bruch, PA, 135.
