BAINBRIDGE — Forks wrestlers won three weight divisions and sent seven wrestlers to the championship matches in their divisions while winning the Island Invitational on Bainbridge Island this weekend.
Forks tallied 229.5 team points, well ahead of second-place Blaine at 168.5. Port Angeles was fourth out of 13 schools with 118.5 points.
“I was quite happy with the performance of all out kids. This tournament was not the level of the tournaments we usually go to, but I think there were good learning matches for all our kids,” said Forks coach Bob Wheeler.
“We had JV kids who won matches and even placed. We had our top kids who also were challenged,” Wheeler said.
Winning their weight divisions were Spartans Andrew Santos-Delacruz at 120 pounds, Dalton Kilmer at 126 pounds and Hayden Queen at 182 pounds.
Making it to the championship match in their weight divisions and finishing second were Forks’ Jake Weakley (132 pounds), Colton Duncan (138 pounds), Bryan Elena (160 pounds) and Hayden Baker (170 pounds). Weakley came particularly close to winning his weight division, being outpointed 5-4 in the championship match by Mathias Collins of Kennedy Catholic.
The best finish for Port Angeles was by Josh Boe, who finished second at 145 pounds.

Forks will next wrestle in a three-way dual with Central Kitsap and North Kitsap in Poulsbo on Tuesday. Port Angeles will host Port Townsend and Bremerton in a three-way dual at 5 p.m. Thursday.
PT at Beaver Bash
TENINO — The Port Townsend wrestling squad saw the return of star grappler Dylan Tracer, who came back with a bang, winning his 182-pound weight division at the Beaver Bash Tournament, beating a 1B/2B state champion from last year.
Tracer has been out all year after breaking his hand while playing football. He beat Lucas Ashley of Adna in the championship bout on Saturday, outpointing the 1B/2B defending 152-pound champ 11-9.
Kyle Caldwell also won his 195-pound weight division for Port Townsend/Chimacum.
“We had a good tournament. [Caldwell] was pretty dominate. He didn’t even get a point scored on him all day. [Tracer] had a tough bracket for his first tournament back. And he beat a state champ in only his fourth match of the year,” said coach Stephen Grimm.
“[Tracer] was a little tired in the 3rd round. You can’t really get in shape for wrestling without wrestling live matches. And because of injury he couldn’t do that till now. The good news is that’s an easy fix,” Grimm said.
Logan Massie also nearly won, finishing second in the 145-pound weight division after losing 9-8 to Tristian Ridley of Adna.
“Logan had a great day but came up just short in the finals. He was heartbroken over the one point loss. That was his first time in the finals. Now that he’s got a taste of it I’m expecting him to be in the finals all year from this point on,” Grimm said.
Also placing were Robby Collier, finishing third at 170 pounds and Ian Linn-Glasgow, who finished third at 152 pounds.
Robbie and Ian stepped up and came through for third place for us. They are really starting to improve the second half of the year.
Port Townsend next wrestles at home against Vashon at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday. The Redhawks will also wrestle Thursday in a three-way dual at Port Angeles. Bremerton will also be at that meet that begins at 5 p.m.
