WRESTLING: Forks boys take second at The Rock

VASHON — Forks continued its strong season, finishing second out of 15 schools at The Rock tournament on Vashon Island Saturday, with Spartans Colby Demorest, Luke Dahlgren and Nate Flores all winning their weight divisions.

Forks finished with 198.5 points, second only to 2A power Orting’s 269.5. Orting finished second at the Mat Classic last year in a higher class than Forks. Nine Spartans finished third or higher at the meet.

Demorest won his weight class of 160, while Dahlgren pinning teammate Eden Cisneros in the 220-pound championship match. In fact, the Spartans completely dominated at 220 pounds, with Demorest, Cisneros and teammate Tristen Pisani finishing first-second-third.

Flores won at 285 pounds, winning his championship match 3-0.

Brett Moody finished second at 170 pounds. He lost in the championship match by a 4-1 decision.

Last year’s 106-pound 1A state champion Josue Lucas, lost his first match of the year at 113 pounds, though he lost it to a 2A wrestler. Lucas lost by decision 6-3 to Conner Goucher or Orting, who is the No. 2-ranked 2A wrestler in the state at 113 pounds. Lucas finished tied for third place.

Also finishing tied for third were Keith Thompson at 138 pounds and Shane Queen at 182 pounds.

Also placing for Forks were Andres Santos-Delacruz at sixth at 120 pounds and Josh Salazar at sixth at 160 pounds.

“Overall, we are being consistent with having good showings at each tournament,” said coach Bob Wheeler. “We still need to work more at team concepts so that this team can really take off and become something special.”
