WRESTLING: Forks boys and girls win home tournament

FORKS — The Forks wrestling team, coming off its second-place 2B finish at the state Mat Classic last year, showed in the opening tournament of the year that it’s going to be tough again this year, outpointing three Olympic Peninsula schools.

The Sequim boys also had a good showing in the Forks Wrestling Tournament held this weekend.

Forks won the all-Peninsula tournament with 200 points while Sequim came in second at 164.5. Port Angeles was third at 146.5 and East Jefferson fourth at 125.

For the girls, Forks won with 50 points to East Jefferson’s 44. Sequim was third and Port Angeles fourth.

The Forks boys won six weight classes. Port Angeles and East Jefferson each won three. Sequim won two classes but sent a total of eight wrestlers into the championship match of their weight classes.

120 — Abraham Montealegre (def. Mi Amada Lanphear-Ramirez, EJ).

126 — Jesus Garcia Dominguez (def. Finn Jones, Sequim).

132 — Walker Rondeau (def. Chase Puksta, PA).

157 — Walker Wheeler (def. Anthony McMahan, PA).

285 — Sloan Tumaua (def. John Prorok, Sequim). Tumaua is the defending 2B state champion.

Sequim champions:

113 — Cayden Beauregard (def. Kolby Helvey, PA).

175 — Ari Skov (def. James Henery, EJ).

Port Angeles champions:

138 — John Grubbs (def. Riley Downs, Sequim).

165 — Ethan Abrams (def. Aiden Ivey, Forks).

190 — AJ Martinez Jr. (def. Dylan Bowen, Sequim).

East Jefferson champions:

144 — Grady White (def. Landon Thomas, Forks).

150 — Manaseh Lanphear-Ramirez (def. Jayms Villona, Sequim).

215 — Phoenyx DeAngelis (def. Hunter Blore, PA).

Girls results

Forks champions:

122-128 — Peyton Johnson.

East Jefferson champions:

112-120 — Gracee Liske.

164-181 — Zinnia Berg.

Port Angeles champions:

117 — Faye Dachs.

132-139 — Sam Smith

Sequim champions:

119-132 — Aria Turrey.
