PORT ANGELES — The Peninsula Pirates’ 2-1 win over Everett was a little more special because of the recent rivalry between the last two Northwest Athletic Champions.
But it also was a milestone because it was the 100th victory for Kanyon Anderson as Peninsula women’s coach, which makes it the 100th win in the program’s history.
Only in his sixth season, Anderson’s record with the Peninsula women is 100 wins, 16 losses and 12 ties.
Seven of those losses and six of those ties came in the program’s first year. The Pirates have gone 94-9-6 since, and have won two NWAC championships.
Anderson, who helped build the Peninsula men’s program, was hired as the women’s team’s first coach in 2010.
“It’s wonderful,” Anderson said.
“When I took over the job, I didn’t expect us to have the kind of success that we’re having, and I didn’t expect it to happen so quickly.
Anderson was presented with a banner signed by players and fans, as well as a gold soccer ball, also with signatures, during halftime of the men’s match Wednesday.
He acknowledged the players who have played for the Pirates over the past six seasons.
“Really, I’m grateful to the players that come through here,” Anderson said.
“They’re good players, they win the games, and I just am fortunate to have good players play for me.”
Anderson also served as the head coach of the Peninsula men’s team in 2014, going 13-2-4 and leading the Pirates to the quarterfinal round of the NWAC playoffs.
