WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: Surging Peninsula wins sixth straight

PORT ANGELES — Surging Peninsula College kept the good times rolling with a 76-57 women’s basketball victory against Edmonds in a rare Monday afternoon matinee at home.

The Pirates (7-3, 14-8) have won six straight games to vault into a tie with Olympic (7-3, 8-16), a half-game ahead of Bellevue (6-3, 10-11).

Peninsula and Olympic have five NWAC North games remaining, while Bellevue has six, a result of recent postponements due to weather conditions.

Leilani Padilla was the lone Pirate in double figures Monday against the Tritons, scoring 22 points on 7 of 12 shooting, including 2 of 4 on 3-pointers and 6 of 8 from the free throw line. Padilla also nabbed four rebounds and two steals in the win.

Logan Luke added nine points and tied for the team high in rebounds with six along with Casandra White and Kameron Bowen.

Kuutuuq Danner scored nine and swiped three steals and Ashlynn Sharp added nine points, a game-high seven assists and four rebounds.

Neah Bay’s Gina McCaulley sank two 3-pointers to score six and McCaulley added two boards and an assist.

Port Angeles’ Devin Edwards also saw time for the Pirates, scoring a basket.

Peninsula visits fourth-place Whatcom (6-4, 14-8) tonight.
