AZUSA, Calif. — Jessica Madison and the University of Alaska-Anchorage Seawolves are moving on to the NCAA Division II women’s basketball Elite Eight

Madison, a 2011 graduate of Port Angeles High School, scored 13 points in a 72-57 win over UC San Diego on Monday to help Alaska-Anchorage claim the West Region championship.

Madison, a senior guard, was named to the all-tournament team. Teammate Alysha Devine was picked as the tournament’s MVP.

Madison made 4 of 6 shots from the field and 4 of 5 at the free-throw line Monday. She scored in double figures in all three West Regional victories.

She led the Seawolves with 17 points in their 83-79 overtime victory over Cal Baptist on Saturday.

Madison hit three consecutive 3-pointers during one stretch in the first half. In overtime, she made a layup to give the Seawolves the lead for good at 78-77 with a minute to go.

Alaska-Anchorage opened the West Regional by beating Cal State Dominguez Hills 82-53 last week. Madison scored nine points and went 6 for 6 at the free-throw line.

Madison now has 101 wins in her college career, which ranks third in Alaska-Anchorage history.

She is eighth on the school’s career scoring list with 1,278 points.

The Seawolves (36-2) will travel to Sioux Falls, S.D., for the Elite Eight next week.

They face Francis Marion, the Southeast Region champions, in a national quarterfinal game Tuesday, March 22.

The winner will play either Grand Valley State or Pittsburgh State in the Final Four the following day.

The Division II championship game is Monday, April 4, at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

The Final Four and championship games will air on CBS Sports Network.
