WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: Peninsula holds back Whatcom

Peninsula Daily News

PORT ANGELES — Ashlynn Sharp’s late 3-point basket and made free throws were the difference as the Peninsula College women’s basketball team broke open a tied game and held back Whatcom 72-67 on Wednesday.

The lead exchanged hands six times and the teams were tied six times in an eventful fourth quarter.

Kameron Bowen’s steal gave Peninsula possession of the ball with around 30 seconds remaining and after a Pirates timeout, Sharp sank the eventual game-winning triple with 19 seconds.

Sharp finished with 12 points, six rebounds, two assists and a steal.

Leilani Padilla led Peninsula with 19 points. She added seven rebounds, three offensive, and three assists.

Sunshine Vicente added nine points and Neah Bay’s Gina McCaulley had nine points and four rebounds off the bench, including hitting 2 of 5 3-point shots.

The Pirates (2-3, 9-8) visit Everett (3-2, 8-12) on Saturday.
