WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: Peninsula College can’t complete comeback, fall to Walla Walla

PC women fall to Walla Walla

PASCO — Peninsula College trailed by as much as 16 points in the first half before rallying to take a one-point lead with less than 30 seconds to play, but the Pirates were edged out at the free throw line late in a 57-55 women’s basketball loss to Walla Walla on Friday.

A slow start had the Pirate women trailing 29-13 with 4:07 left in the second quarter before Peninsula closed the half with a 14-4 run to come within 33-27 at halftime.

In the second half, Peninsula went down as much as 52-43 with 6:49 left in the contest before picking up some stops, eventually going ahead 55-54 on Makena Patrick’s jump shot with 54 seconds left.

Walla Walla eventually worked the ball down low in the post and Addy Laible hit a pair of freebies to retake the lead 56-55 with 23 seconds left.

Peninsula had four looks down low at the basket in the final seconds but couldn’t find the net. The Pirates also had one final possession end on a turnover on an inbounds play and Walla Walla added a final free throw with a second left.

Alexa Mackey and Carlisse O’Brien led the Pirates with 13 points apiece.
