WOMEN SOCCER: Peninsula College women fall short of third straight NWAC soccer championship

TUKWILA — The Peninsula College women’s soccer team’s bid to three-peat as NWAC champions came up 10 minutes and a goal short in a 1-0 loss to Everett on Sunday at Starfire Sports Stadium in Tukwila.

The Pirates had better scoring chances in the first half, but a switch in formation and hard work by the Everett attackers allowed the Trojans much of the run of play in the second half.

Peninsula’s stout defense finally relented in the 80th minute when Everett striker Alma Manao won the ball and went on a charge upfield, eventually uncorking a strike from the upper right of the 18-yard box that found its way to the net.

The Pirates last offensive push came on a Lexi Krieger through ball to Alyssa Bertuleit. Bertuliet ran the ball down and looked for a shot, but a slide tackle by the Trojan defense helped clear the ball from danger at the last moment.

Peninsula ends the season with a 19-2-2 record.
