WILDER: Wilder Senior splits doubleheader

PORT ANGELES — The Wilder baseball club split a pair with the Skagit Sox on the weekend, leaving the team with its first league loss of the year, but still tied in the loss column for first place.

Wilder beat the Sox 7-2 in the early game Saturday, getting a two-run home run from Carson Jackson and outstanding pitching from starter Ian Miller. In the nightcap, Wilder got a home run from Johnnie Young, but only managed five hits overall in an 8-3 loss.

Miller went six innings in the victory, giving up three hits and one earned run, while striking out four and walking one. Hayden Woods came in to pitch the seventh, giving up one hit and one walk while striking out a batter and allowing no runs.

In addition to Jackson’s offense, Joel Wood was 2 for 3 with a double, two steals and two runs scored, Ethan Flodstrom was 1 for 3 with two runs scored, two steals and an RBI. Gavin Guerrero was 1 for 3 with a run scored and an RBI, while Tyler Bowen had a hit and an RBI and Miller helped himself out on the mound with a hit and an RBI.

In the second game, Young had two RBIs and a run scored off his home run. Wood, Merritt, Guerrero and Bowen all added singles, with Hayden Woods driving in a run on a groundout.

Flodstrom started the game, going four innings and giving up three earned runs on six hits and five strikeouts with a walk. Merritt gave up four earned runs in two innings and Bowen pitched a scoreless seventh inning, giving up no hits and no walks.

Wilder is now 22-4 on the season and 9-1 in the Area 1 Northwest AAA American Legion League, tied with Lakeside Recovery (10-1) in the loss column, but technically a half-game behind.

Wilder next plays a league doubleheader today at noon on the road against Baseball Beyond Borders (4-5-1 in league).
