WILDER: Senior team hits 2 HRs, but lose second game on road trip

MOUNT VERNON — The Wilder Seniors got back-to-back home runs from Luke Angevine and Matt Hendry, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Mount Vernon Dawgs.

The Dawgs won 7-3 in Saturday’s game. Coach Karl Myers said the Mount Vernon pitcher mixed three pitches for strikes, keeping the Wilder Seniors off-balance. They ended up striking out 14 times in nine innings.

“Our two strike approach was lacking big time and against a strike thrower that mixes speeds and pitches backwards that’s not a recipe for success (14ks in 9 innings), but give their guys credit they pitched very well,” Myers said.

Myers said Brady Shimko and Kyle Blankenship pitched great in relief, giving up just one run in four combined innings.

Joel Wood and Kole Milyard also had two hits and a walk for Wilder Senior. Angevine ended the game with two RBIs.

Wilder Senior traveled on Sunday to Wenatchee to play three games as part of their five-game road trip to northern and central Washington. They played two games against the Apple Packers on Monday, then will play a third game against Wenatchee today.
