WILDER BASEBALL: Wilder Seniors remain unbeaten after sweep over Bellingham

PORT ANGELES — The Wilder Seniors remained unbeaten on the season after a sweep over Bellingham Post No. 7 in Area 1 League-opening American Legion action this weekend.

Wilder improved to 3-0 on the season by beating Bellingham 3-2 and 12-2 on Sunday, winning the first game with a walkoff hit by Milo Whitman deciding the game.

In Game 1, Whitman finished 3 for 3 a run, RBI and a walk. Hayden Woods hit a double, while Ethan Flodstrom and Bo Bradow each had a hit. Joel Wood walked twice and two stolen bases. Flodstrom walked in the seventh inning and came around to score the winning run on Whitman’s hit.

Brody Merritt started the game, going six innings, and giving up no runs on four hits in what was a pitchers’ duel with Bellingham, which only allowed six hits itself.

Merritt struck out eight and walked one. Seth Scofield pitched the seventh, giving up two runs, neither of them earned. He picked up the win on Whitman’s hit.

In Game 2, Wood was 3 for 4 with a double and three runs scored. Gavin Guerrero was 2 for 3 with a run scored and three RBIs. Whitman was 2 for 3 with three RBIs, while Merritt was 2 for 2 with a run scored, two RBIs and a walk. Flodstrom was 1 for 2 with three runs scored, two stolen bases, an RBI and a walk.

On the mound, Hayden Woods when 5 1/3 innings, going up two runs, both unearned on seven hits.

Wilder (3-0, 2-0) will next play Friday in Bellevue in league games against Lakeside BR.

Wilder Junior

Wilder Junior split its first two games of the year, bouncing back from a rough first game by winning its second game 10-0 against the Mount Vernon Riverdogs.

The games had identical scores as the Riverdogs won Game 1 10-0.

After a tough start to that game, Adam Watkins came in to pitch the final 3 2/3 innings, giving up just one run on three hits.

Wilder Jr. has a mix of Forks, Port Angeles, Sequim and Bainbridge players.

Wilder Jr.’s Joey Hildebrandt (Bainbridge), Trey Baysinger (Forks), Watkins (Port Angeles) and Zack McCracken (Sequim) all had hits.

In Game 2, Wilder Jr. got great offense and pitching. Hildebrandt went 2 for 2 with a double, two runs and two RBIs, two stolen bases and a walk. Ty Bradow was 1 for 3 with three RBIs. Baysinger was 1 for 1 with two runs scored and two walks.

Beckett Jarnigan was 1 for 1 with a run scored.

Carter Windle of Forks started that game, nearly getting a no-hitter. He went 3 2/3 innings and gave up just one hit. He struck out five and walked three. Mason Nickovich, Eli Cyr and Landon Seibel pitched the final 2 1/3, giving up no hits, while striking out three and walking four.

Wilder Jr. will next play the Kitsap County Rebels on the road Saturday.
