WILDER BASEBALL: Wilder Juniors’ bats go wild on the road

LONGVIEW — The Wilder Junior team went on an offensive rampage on the road this weekend, winning three games in southern Washington by a combined 41-6.

The Wilder Juniors beat the Lower Columbia Junior Legion team 10-0 and 14-4 on Saturday, then beat the Rochester Junior Legion 17-2 on Sunday, upping their record to 9-2.

In Saturday’s doubleheader, Ethan Flodstrom went 4-4 with a triple, a grand slam home run, seven runs scored and five runs batted in. Coach Bob Merritt said his grand slam traveled 360 feet.

Slater Bradley picked up the win in the early Lower Columbia game, pitching a shutout and giving up just two hits and three walks while striking out six.

Brody Merritt won the second game, going five innings and giving up five hits and three earned runs while striking out 10 batters. Merritt also did a lot of damage at the plate, going 4-6 with a double and six RBIs in the doubleheader.

Against Rochester the following day, the game was actually close in the fifth inning, with Wilder Junior holding on to a 4-2 lead. The Wilder bats erupted again, however, for six runs in the fifth and another seven runs in the sixth.
