WILDER BASEBALL CLUB: Seniors play tough after sweep

YAKIMA — The Wilder Baseball Club senior team bounced back from a rough opening day to take a strong Yakima Pepsi-Pak team to eight innings Sunday.

Wilder lost Sunday’s game 5-4, but the team’s play was much improved over Saturday. In Saturday’s games, Wilder only had nine players available because of graduation events and SAT tests. Wilder lost both of those games 10-0. Coach Zac Moore said Wilder pitched well in those games, but defensive lapses hurt the team.

Pepsi-Pak is the defending Washington state American Legion champion.

On Sunday, the team got more of its regular players. Landon Seibel, a Port Angeles graduate who attends Anoka-Ramsey Community College in Minnesota, and Beckett Jarnagin pitched for Wilder, keeping Pepsi Pak in check.

“Errors in the end cost us, but it was a big turnaround,” Moore said.

A Friday game against NW Sting was rained out after three innings and will be rescheduled.

Wilder has a number of games scheduled at Civic Field this weekend. They are set to play Lakeside BR at 3:30 p.m. and NW Sting at 6 p.m. on Saturday and Lakeside BR at 10 a.m. Sunday and NW Sting at 3 p.m. Sunday. These are Area 1 AAA league games.
