Diznee, a Japanese chin, is now set to retire

NEW YORK — Diznee, a Japanese chin co-owned by Mariko Saum and Dawn Shaffett of Chimacum, won Best of Breed on Monday at the prestigious Westminster Dog Show in New York City.

Diznee — his full name is Cobeauche When You Wish Upon a Star — went to Westminster as the No. 1 Japanese chin in All Breed and the No. 2 dog in breed. He was ranked the No. 20 toy in the U.S.

Diznee, who is four years old, is appearing in his final dog show and is set to retire after Westminster. Diznee appeared in the toy group competition, which includes other small breeds such as Italian greyhounds, Monday night.

Another dog locally owned is also competing at Westminster, a Bernese mountain dog named Vegas co-owned by Susan Parr of Port Angeles. Vegas is a female dog just under two years old. She is competing today.

Parr and Saum are members of the Hurricane Ridge Kennel Club.
