WEST COAST LEAGUE: Lefties drop pair of games to Wenatchee

WENATCHEE — The Port Angeles Lefties couldn’t have had two more different types of games this weekend against Wenatchee.

Unfortunately, they couldn’t sync their pitching with their hitting, losing Friday 21-9 and losing again Saturday 3-0.

In Saturday’s loss, the Lefties pitching staff had a great game, allowing just six hits, but the team was blanked by a pair of Apple Sox hurlers who gave up just seven hits.

Wenatchee scored all of its runs in the second inning, but the Lefties couldn’t take advantage.

Ryan Rodriguez (Centralia College) went four innings, allowing two hits and four walks while giving up three earned runs. He struck out five. Ian Hoffsteter (Chaffey College) went four innings, allowing four hits and two walks while striking out two.

At the plate, Taylor Kirk (Fordham) was 2-for-3, while Jeremy Giesegh (Cal State, San Bernardino) was 2-for-4 with a double.

In Friday’s game, it was the opposite as the Lefties had plenty of offense, but the pitching staff struggled. The Lefties’ bats were red-hot in a three-game series at home this week against the Seattle Gumberoos and they remained hot Friday night as Port Angeles pounded out 12 hits, including a grand slam home run by Jack Edmunds (Brown). Unfortunately, the pitching staff was roughed up with 26 hits and eight walks. The two teams combined for 57 total baserunners.

Kirk and his Fordham teammate Tommy Markey had big games. Kirk was 2-for-5 with two runs scored and a stolen base, while Markey was 3-for-5.

Tyler Shulman (Harvard) had a hit, a run scored and two RBIs, while Dom Dominguez (Cal State, San Bernardino) hit a double, scored a run and drove in a run. Giesegh had a hit, a run scored and an RBI.

The Lefties (2-9 in West Coast League, 5-9 overall) played Wenatchee (10-4) late Sunday after press deadline in the conclusion of the series and then return to Civic Field for a three-game series beginning Tuesday against the Kelowna Falcons (4-10).
