WEST COAST LEAGUE: Lefties’ bus and bats break down

BELLINGHAM — After playing a week-long stretch of games in temperatures in the upper 90s and triple digits, Port Angeles suffered through two separate team bus breakdowns on the way to Bellingham and an eventual 9-3 loss to the Bells.

The Lefties arrived less than a half hour before the scheduled 7:05 p.m. first pitch, but did manage to open up a 3-0 lead after the top of the third before wilting down the stretch.

Trevor Tishenkel earned a walk with the bases loaded and two outs to score in the first inning, but Port Angeles couldn’t put together any more two-out runs.

A Garrett Lake sacrifice fly scored Javy Espinoza for a 2-0 lead in the second inning.

New addition to the lineup Bryce Matthews singled and came home to score on a Jack Holman ground out in the third to put the Lefties up 3-0.

But Bellingham was able to get to Lefties starter Connor Spear and relievers Zach Thomas, Joe Sinclair, Steven Brooks and Luke Saunders, scoring nine runs over the next five innings to pull away with the contest.

The Lefties wrap up a three-game series with Bellingham with a noon contest today.
