WEST COAST LEAGUE BASEBALL: Lefties still looking for first win of 2023

BEND, Ore. — The Port Angeles Lefties are still looking for their first win of the year as they took a 17-5 road loss to the Bend Elks on Monday night.

The Elks scored 14 runs in the first three innings, then the Lefties pitchers settled down, allowing just three runs over the last five innings.

Jacob Pipercic (St. Elizabeth University) pitched a scoreless sixth inning, allowing a hit and two walks but getting out of the jam with a bases-loaded strikeout to not allow any runs. BY Choi (New Mexico Military Institute and Dallas Baptist Univ.), normally not a pitcher, went the final two innings and did well, allowing three hits, a walk and just one earned run.

At the plate, Ethan Young (Lafayette) belted a two-run home run, his first of the year. He went 2-for-4 and scored two runs. Roberto Nunez (Embry-Riddle) remained hot for the Lefties with a double, a run scored and an RBI, keeping his batting average at .455 for the season.

Owen Allsup (West Texas A&M) went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Jacob Billings (Chaffey College) had a double and RBI. Choi also had a hit and a run scored.

The Lefties (0-4) played at Bend after press deadline Tuesday night and wrap up their series at 6:35 p.m. today. They return to Port Angeles and have their home opener at 6:35 p.m. Friday.
