CHEHALIS — The Port Angeles and Forks boys basketball teams were the big winners this past weekend.
The Roughriders got another huge game from Gus Halberg, who scored 37 points, 24 of them coming in the second half, in beating W.F. West 65-53 on the road Saturday.
The victory evened Port Angeles’ record at 3-3 heading into the Yakima SunDome Shootout. Brock Hope also had a solid game with eight points and seven blocked shots.
It was the second huge game of the year for Halberg, who scored 25 in a win over Olympic early last week.
Port Angeles (1-3, 3-3) will play a pair of games at the Yakima SunDome Shootout, beginning at 2 p.m. Friday against Quincy and a game at 4:30 p.m. Saturday against East Valley (Yakima).
Forks 58, Montesano 51
MONTESANO — The Forks boys basketball team got up on old Evergreen 1A rival Montesano and never let the Bulldogs to gain the lead in a 58-51 road win this weekend.
The Spartans were consistent, scoring between 12 and 17 points each quarter, as they improved to 7-1 on the season.
Titus Rowley led the Spartans with 21 points to go with 10 rebounds and five steals. Bubba Hernandez-Stansbury had 13 points and six steals, while Brody Lausche had 12 points and eight rebounds.
The Spartans next play at a Raymond Holiday Tournament. Forks plays against Hoquiam at 2:30 p.m. Friday and Friday Harbor at 4 p.m. Saturday.
Concrete 48, Crescent 40
BOTHELL — The Crescent boys basketball team played solid in the first and fourth quarters but struggled in the middle two quarters in a 48-40 loss to Concrete in a Saturday game played on a neutral court at the Heritage Christian Academy.
Henry Bourm led the Loggers with 14 points, while Mikah Love had 10.
The Loggers (5-3 overall) are off until after Christmas. They next play against Willapa Valley at the North Beach Tournament at 11 a.m. Friday.
Bellevue Christian 75, East Jefferson 50
BELLEVUE — The East Jefferson boys basketball team got off to a good start against Bellevue Christian, down just two points at the half, but the Vikings opened up the second half with a 20-5 third quarter to take control in a 75-50 win.
East Jefferson was led by Luke O’Hara, who hit four 3-pointers and scored 26 points to go with nine rebounds. John Mercado added 15 points.
The Rivals (1-4) next play on at 5 p.m. Dec. 31 against Port Angeles.
Lake Roosevelt 63, Neah Bay 62
Neah Bay 61, Manson 57
WATERVILLE — The Neah Bay boys basketball team split a pair of games at a Waterville tournament this weekend, beating Manson 61-57, then losing its first game of the year Saturday 63-62 to Lake Roosevelt.
Girls Basketball
Sequim 66, Foss 19
TACOMA — The Sequim girls basketball team got 22 points from Gracie Chartraw and was in complete control all game in a 66-19 win over Foss on Saturday.
Chartraw shot 9-for-11 from 2-point range and added five steals and four assists.
Neveah Owns had eight points, while Hailey Wagner had nine rebounds and four steals.
Sequim (1-2, 2-3) next plays Monday, hosting a traveling team from Australia, Showcase Basketball, at 5 p.m.
Montesano 40, Forks 23
MONTESANO — The Forks girls played well defensively but struggled with turnovers and scoring in a 40-23 loss to Montesano.
Bailey Johnson led the Spartans with 10 points, while Avery Dilley had nine.
The Spartans (2-5) are off until Jan. 6 when they host Ilwaco in a Pacific 2B League opener.
Bellevue Christian 67, East Jefferson 32
BELLEVUE — The East Jefferson girls basketball team lost 67-32 to Bellevue Christian, one of the best 1A teams in the state.
The Rivals were led by Penina Vailolo, who scored 12. Dylin Shockley hit a pair of 3-pointers and scored six, and Kadence Plotner scored nine.
Neah Bay 61, Waterville 46
Neah Bay 52, Pateros 30
WATERVILLE — The Neah Bay girls basketball team improved to 6-0 on the season with wins at a Waterville tournament this weekend. The Red Devils beat Waterville 61-46 and Pateros 52-30.
