SEQUIM — Sequim celebrated its seniors and locked down second place in the Olympic League after a 3-0 (25-9, 25-16, 25-12) sweep of Bremerton on Tuesday night.
After the Wolves (11-3, 11-4) wrapped up against the Knights, the team gathered around a smartphone to watch Bainbridge (14-0, 14-2) seal an unbeaten Olympic League regular season with a sweep of third-place North Kitsap (10-4, 11-5).
“It was our senior night for Arianna Stovall and Destiny Bernard — and our last home game, but we have lots more games to play, so there weren’t too many tears,” Sequim coach Jennie Webber Heilman said.
Webber-Heilman said the Wolves posted their worst serving percentage of the season, 76 percent, off of their match goal of 90 percent.
“It was equal, everybody was struggling,” Webber-Heilman said. “We did get 13 aces, so we did have some success on serves.
“Bremerton missed a lot of serves as well, and really weren’t putting the ball in play, so we didn’t pass too many balls.”
Stovall led the Wolves with 11 kills and added four digs, two blocks and three aces.
Kassi Montero served 10-for-12 with five aces, four coming during a serving run in the third game.
Sequim will face Bainbridge at 1 p.m. Saturday at Bainbridge in the Olympic League Tournament for the No. 1/2 seeds to the Class 2A West Central District Tournament.
Kingston 3, Port Angeles 2
PORT ANGELES — The Roughriders left it all on the court in a 3-2 (25-21, 15-25, 25-21, 22-25, 15-11) senior night defeat against the Buccaneers.
“The first set of the night we dedicated to our six seniors. Heidi Leitz, Tatum Moses, Aubree Hebert, Josie Wood, Jazz Murray and Bridget Weed,” coach Alyssa Wetzler said.
“All seniors rotated all the way around the whole set, and it was so fun to see them all be able to play the game. We had our defenders play front row and they executed. We had our front row players on defense in the back row, and they had great digs.
“It truly made me so proud that they made it through the entire set without any subs,” she said.
Aubree Herbert and Bridget Weed tied for the Riders’ team high in kills. Herbert added seven kills, five aces, five digs and two set assists.
Weed had seven kills, three digs and a block assist, while Josie Wood chipped in with five kills, an ace, a block and a dig.
Leitz totaled three kills, a pair of aces and four digs, Moses a kill and eight digs and Murray a kill, four aces, 20 set assists and two digs.
The Riders (2-12, 2-14) were a rewarding team to coach, Wetzler said.
“This year, our team has built a bond that will last a lifetime,” Wetzler said. “The girls respect one another, they are humble, they give grace, and they show up every day with their best intentions. What else could a coach ask for? Cheers to our seniors.”
