PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles fell 25-18, 25-11, 25-9 to Olympic League leaders Bainbridge but Roughriders coach Alyssa Wetzler was enthusiastic about the team’s play.
“Our best match yet,” Wetzler said. “We have improved so much as a unit, and the floor was on fire. Great serving, great communication, blocks were put up, our passers were digging hard hit balls, our sets were there, we were attacking and the celebration was top notch,” Wetzler said.
“We walked out of our gym with our heads held high. We had many wins during that match, and we are fired up for more to come.”
Jordin Dunaway led the Riders with three kills, a block and an assist.
Alyssum Larsen added two kills and a block, while Josie Wood posted a block and an assist.
Aubree Hebert added an ace and two digs, Kenzie Moses a block and a kill and Kayleigh Sargent totaled an ace and two digs.
Sequim 3, North Mason 1
SEQUIM — The Wolves opened hot in its first game, weathered a downturn in its second, but played well enough to pick up a win over North Mason 25-16, 12-25, 25-19, 25-21
“It was an odd game,” coach Jennie Webber Heilman said. “We played well in the first game, but fell completely flat in the second. When things went wrong they went wrong in bunches. Our serving was only 81-percent, but you look at our hitting stats and we were getting kills and hitting good balls.”
Sequim’s Ariana Stovall served 11-for-13 with three aces, a game-high 12 kills, two stuff blocks and 10 digs.
Teammate Rose Gibson had three aces, three perfect passes, 11 kills, a stuff block and eight digs.
Brianna Palenik served 9-of-10 with 8 kills, while Sydney Clark added an ace, two kills, three assists and two digs.
Kenzi Berglund served 10-of-12 with two aces, a kill, 23 assists and six digs.
Sequim (7-2, 7-3) visits first-place Bainbridge (9-0, 9-1) on Tuesday.
