VOLLEYBALL: Port Angeles’ Robideau signs to play for Evergreeen State

PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles senior Kiana Robideau did her family and teammates proud Wednesday by signing a letter of intent to play volleyball for The Evergreen State College.

Robideau, a 5-foot-10 outside hitter for the Roughriders, said she chose Evergreen State for a few reasons.

“I had heard a whole bunch of positive talk about them. Then when we visited, they were really welcoming,” she said. She also likes their mascot, the Geoducks, because her family was involved in an import business and they worked around geoducks.

She also liked the fact that the Olympia campus is not too far from home.

“I’m a homebody, family is No. 1 to me,” she said.

Robideau’s family members, coaches and friends attended her signing ceremony.

“We’re proud of you. I can’t wait to see what happens at the next level,” said her father Steve. Her mother said she was particularly proud of Robideau’s accomplishments as a Native American woman.

“When you were a freshman, we told you the next four years were going to fly by. Thank you for your four years here. The next four years at Evergreen State are going to fly by. I hope we have served you well,” Robideau was told by Port Angeles Athletic Director Dwayne Johnson at her signing ceremony.

“Thank you everyone who pushed me to be the best I could be. I wouldn’t be here without each and every one of you,” Robideau said.

Evergreen State is a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics school that plays in the Cascade Collegiate Conference, made up of public and private schools in Washington, Oregon and Idaho.

Robideau will join former Sequim standout Megan Breckinridge, a freshman for the Geoducks, on the team roster.
