UPDATED —Â COLLEGE SOCCER: Peninsula College women and men repeat as NWAACC champs

TUKWILA — The Peninsula College men’s soccer team joined the women’s team in winning its second consecutive NWAACC championship Sunday night on a late goal by Alex Martinez.

Peninsula and Clark played to a scoreless tie until the 85th minute when Martinez’s deep kick found the back of the goal. The kick was deflected by Clark goalkeeper Johnathan Morales, but not enough to keep it from bouncing into the net.

With that goal, his 28th of the season, Martinez tied the Peninsula College scoring record of 49 career goals. He was named MVP after the game.

Pirates goalkeeper Angel Guerra recorded nine saves, including a big stop moments before the final whistle, to earn his 12th shutout of the season. Guerra also didn’t allow a goal in Peninsula’s semifinal win over Walla Walla on Saturday.

The NWAACC championship is the Pirates’ third in four years.
