LAPUSH — This weekend’s Last Chance Salmon Derby was canceled this morning because of adverse weather conditions, said Quileute tribal events coordinator Russell Brooks this morning.

Brooks said a high wave advisory and subsequent boat restrictions imposed by the Coast Guard force the cancellation.

The Rivers Edge Restaurant will still be open on an expanded schedule with specials, he added.

Here is a statement from Lissy Andros of the Forks Chamber of Commerce, which was a co-sponsor of the salmon derby:

The 2014 Last Chance Salmon Derby has been canceled this year due to predicted swells of 7 feet on Saturday, which would result in Coast Guard restrictions on boat size. We are very sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. If you have purchased a ticket in advance, refunds will be processed and mailed to you. Please feel free to contact the Forks Chamber of Commerce with any questions. We look forward to seeing you next year for the 2015 Last Chance Salmon Derby!
