TRACK ROUNDUP: Forks, Crescent girls rack up wins at Lions Club Invite

PA’s Pierce, Sequim’s Hulstedt win at Li’l Norway meet

FORKS —The Forks and Crescent girls track teams shined at the Forks Lions Club Invitational track and field meet this weekend.

The Forks girls, powered by the sprints and relays, came in second with 90 points while Crescent tied with Olympic for third with 67. Coupeville won with 141 points.

Meanwhile, the Clallam Bay boys finished third behind Olympic and Coupeville.

Forks won the 200-meter run behind Erika Williams’ time of 28.89 seconds and the 400 behind Caitlynn Cooney’s 400 time of 1:17.00.

The Forks 4×200 relay team of Moli Luong, Jade Blair, Skye Hested and Williams took first in 1:57.03, while the same four girls took first in the 4×400 in a time of 4:42.25.

Forks’ Reagan Dunn and Bryelle Wopperer both won the javelin, with identical throws of 102 feet, 8 inches, both personal records.

For Crescent, Naomii Sprague won the 100-meter hurdles in a personal-record time of 17 seconds flat and she also won the triple jump with a distance of 31 feet, five inches and the long jump with a leap of 14-10. Sprague also came in second in the 100-meter run in a time of 13.56.

Crescent’s Alexis Dunavant won the shot put with a distance of 31-6¾. Crescent’s Katelyn Dunavant and Forks’ Katelynn Wallerstedt tied for second in the discus with throws of 91-4.

Neah Bay also picked up a number of first-place finishes. Alexa Greene took first in the 100 meters in a time of 13.54, just nipping Sprague. Caylee Moss from Neah Bay won the 300 hurdles in a time of 55.15, a personal record, while also coming in second in the 1,600 in a time of 6:10.57. Clallam Bay’s Kaleeka Mendoza-McCarty took first in the high jump with a personal-record leap of 4 feet, 6 inches.

Boys

While several Olympic Peninsula athletes had personal bests, Hunter Flores of Port Angles and William Hull of Clallam Bay were the only local winners. Flores took first in the javelin with a throw of 143-1, a personal record. Meanwhile, Hull was first in the high jump with a height of 5-8.

There were a number of local second-place finishes. Noah Foster of Forks was second in the 400 with a time of 53.76, while Hull was second in the 300 hurdles in a time of 44.94.

Cyrus Politte of Clallam Bay was second in the 100 hurdles (18.37) and second in the triple jump with a distance of 36-10.

Forks’ Kaden Ward was second in the discus with a throw of 100-7, a personal record, and Joshua Noel of Crescent was second in the javelin with a personal-record throw of 122-6.

Li’l Norway meet

POULSBO — Port Angeles’ Brody Pierce won the triple jump at the Li’l Norway meet at North Kitsap High School, while Sequim’s Dawn Hulstedt took first in the 800-meter run.

Pierce won his event with a personal-record distance of 43-6½, while Hulstedt’s time of 2:26.06 was good for first. Hulstedt also came in third in the 1,600 in a time of 5:23.08.

Port Angeles’ Teanna Clark came in second in the javelin with a throw of 105-1, while East Jefferson’s Arden Moore was third in the 300 hurdles in 47.84. For the girls, East Jefferson’s Kaydence Plotner was fourth in the 100 hurdles (17.41), while Clare Turella of Sequim was fifth in the high jump with a leap of 5-0.

For the boys, Port Angeles’ Jude Wallace was third in the pole vault with a height of 10-6. Port Angeles’ Easton Dempsey was fourth in the 800 meters (2:01.04) and Sequim’s Reid Randall fourth in the pole vault with a 10-6.
