FORKS — The Forks boys — led by five first-place finishes from Skyler Steffen and Ashton Doyle — and the girls dominated a six-team Pacific League 2B track meet held in Forks.
The Forks boys won Thursday’s team competition with 53 points to Elma’s 33. The Forks girls won with 48 team points to Elma’s 42.
The Neah Bay girls came in third with 30 points and the Red Devils boys came in fourth with 20 points. The Clallam Bay boys picked up five team points and the girls seven.
Steffen finished first in three field events. He won the shot put by more than 4½ feet with a distance of 41 feet, 7 inches. He won the discus by 38 feet with a throw of 139-9 and he won the javelin by 30 feet with a distance of 134-8.
Doyle, meanwhile, excelled in the sprints, winning the 100 meters in 11.74 seconds and winning the 200 meters in 24.16 seconds. He was also second in the long jump (18-3½), getting edged out by Joshua Panicker of Northwest Christian by a mere inch.
Neah Bay’s Robert Richardson won the 400 meters with a time of 57.59 seconds. Richardson also got third in the 100 meter (12.61) and third in the 200 meters (25.64).
The Forks boys completely dominated in the discus, picking up the top four places. In addition to Steffen’s winning throw, Luis-Junior Maldonado-Rodriguez finished second at 104-2, Nate Dahlgren was third at 97-3 and Sloan Tumaua was fourth at 92-0.
Maldonado-Rodriguez was also second in the javelin (104-2). Forks’ Kasson Tanner-Steffen was second in the high jump (5-2)
Neah Bay’s 4×100 team (Julian Carrick, Neil Bowechop, Anthony Martinez and Richardson) was second with a time of 48.69, getting edged by Elma by only .27 of a second.
Girls Results
In the girls’ events, Forks did well in the relays, winning the 4×200 and the 4×400. The Spartans also came in second in the 4×100.
Winning the 4×200 was a Forks team of Myra Luong, Emery Damron, Kesia Rowley and Candida-Rose Sandoval in a time of 2:08.72, barely edging a Neah Bay team of Ryana Moss, Laila Greene, Shilaly Woodruff and Kianah Cameron (2:09.13).
Forks’ 4×400 team (Myranda Walsh, Kendall Marshall, LillyAnn Crowell and Rowley) took first with a time of 5:05.63. Forks’ 4×100 team of Luong, Leslie Hernandez-Beltran, Cassia Helvey and Sandoval came in second at 1:00.43.
Rowley picked up a third first-place finish for Forks, winning the 400 meters with a time of 1:13.54. She also picked up a second in the javelin with a throw of 85-4 as she racked up a lot of points for the Spartans. Rowley’s teammate Sandoval won the 300 hurdles in a time of 1:00.9.
Neah Bay’s Ryana Moss won the 1,600 meters in a time of 6:26.00 and the Red Devils’ Woodruff won the triple jump with a distance of 27-10½, just edging her teammate Ruth Greene, who tallied a distance of 26-4.
Clallam Bay’s Simona Cruz-Lopez, just an eighth-grader, had the Bruins’ best finish of the day, coming in second in the 400 meters with a time of 1:21.49. Her teammate Miranda Tyree came in third in the same race at 1:26.38.
Neah Bay’s Cameron was second in the 100 hurdles (22.19) while Forks’ Emery Damron finished second in the 300 hurdles (1:04.05).
Forks’ Lindsey Edwards was second in the shot put (26-7) and her teammate LillyAnn Crowell was second in the high jump 4-8.
