TRACK AND FIELD ROUNDUP: Port Angeles girls win two home duals

Port Angeles girls win two duals

PORT ANGELES — The Roughriders claimed two of three duals on the girls side and one on the boys side in an Olympic League meet with North Kitsap, Chimacum and Bremerton.

Neah Bay and Clallam Bay also competed but did not earn team points.

Maddie Dougherty and Gracie Long were the lone event winners for the Port Angeles girls.

Dougherty won the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5 minutes, 55.85 seconds, and Long took the 3,200 in 12:12.63.

The Port Angeles girls beat Bremerton 84-43, Chimacum 98-39 and fell to league-leading North Kitsap 100-48.

Paul Van Rossen was the lone event winner for the Port Angeles boys, taking the discus with a throw of 133 feet, 5 inches.

Mayah Simpson-Thompson had three second-place finishes in the jumping contests. He leaped 5-10 in the high jump, 18-10 in the long jump and 37-01 in the triple jump.

Port Angeles edged Chimacum 77-59, and fell 81-63 to Bremerton and 111-34 to North Kitsap.

The Cowboys boys and girls each lost all three of their respective duals.

Chimacum’s Sam Golden won the boys 110 hurdles with a time of 16.92 seconds. Trevon Noel was second in the discus with a throw of 129-04.

Bailey Castillo had the best finish for the Chimacum girls, taking second in the javelin with a mark of 98-11.

Cameron Buzzell had the best result for Neah Bay, finishing second in the boys 200 sprint with a time of 23.95 seconds.

For Clallam Bay, Jamari Signor was second in the boys 800 (2:18.06).

Yearian, Botkin win for Port Townsend

BREMERTON — Wins in the boys javelin by River Yearian and the girls 100-meter hurdles by Aubry Botkin paced a depleted Redhawks team in an Olympic League dual.

An orchestra trip to San Francisco has many Port Townsend athletes out of town.

The Port Townsend girls defeated North Mason 61-54, and fell 60-56 to Coupeville and 112-23 to Olympic.

On the boys side, the Redhawks fell 71-47 to North Mason, 84-43 to Coupeville and 116-24 to Olympic.

Yearian, competing in his first track meet since his freshman year, added 35 feet to his personal best in the javelin, winning with a mark of 125 feet, 8 inches.

Botkin, a freshman, continued to improve in the hurdles.

“She won the 100 hurdles by a second-and-a-half into a headwind with a time of 16.41 seconds,” Redhawks coach Ian Fraser said.

“Aubry then came back to place second in the 300 hurdles in 49.53, taking nearly three seconds off of her best and giving her the No. 10 time in Class 1A this year.”

Port Townsend also enjoyed good performances in the boys 200 sprint.

Koby Weidner ran the event in under 23 seconds for the first time, finishing second with a time of 22.95 seconds that ranks Weidner fifth in 1A.

Seren Dances, running his first-ever 200, placed fourth with a 23.24 time, which is tied for eighth in 1A.
