TRACK AND FIELD ROUNDUP: Lyamba and Long are triple threats for Port Angeles at throwback meet

PORT ANGELES — Sophomores Lainnie Lyamba and Gracie Long won three events apiece for the Port Angeles girls at the Flying A Retro Meet at Port Angeles High School.

Port Angeles athletes wore throwback uniforms at Thursday’s meet, and the other teams — Clallam Bay, Crescent and Neah Bay — were invited to do likewise if they could find some older school track and field uniforms.

Lyamba won the 100-meter dash in 14.09 seconds, the long jump with a leap of 13 feet, 7.5 inches and the triple jump with a mark of 30-04.

Long set a personal-record of 5 feet in the high jump. Her other wins came in the 1,600 (5:33.20) and the 300 hurdles (54.92 seconds).

Other individual winners for Port Angeles: Lael Butler in the 800 run (3:03.26); Emilyann Peterson in the 100 hurdles (21.89); Maddie Dougherty in the pole vault (7 feet); Devin Edwards in the shot put (29-03.25) and Lauren Waldron in the javelin (82-09).

Port Angeles’ relay team of Haili Farnam-Vessey, Cassidy Hodgin, Ciara Gentry and Gretchen Sotebeer won the 4×200 with a time of 1:59.60.

Clallam Bay’s Jennica Maines came out on top in the 200 by posting a time of 29.78. She also was second in the 100 (14.17).

Zeria Signor won the discus for the Bruins with a throw of 82-09.75.

Molly McCoy notched two second-place finishes in the 200 (30.49) and high jump (4-10).

Grace Baillargeon was Crescent’s lone individual winner, taking the 400 with a time of 1:06.55.

Baillargeon, Kristen Frantz, Hannah Lee and Tena Ward won the 4×100 relay for the Loggers, posting a time of 58.23.

Crescent’s McKenzie Brannan also was second in the shot put (27-06) and javelin (81-03).

Charlotte Shaw provided Neah Bay’s best individual performance, finishing third in the 800 run (3:23.73) and fourth in the 1,600 run (7:39.62).

Boys results

Clallam Bay’s Clayton Willis had the best individual day on the boys side, winning four events: the 100 dash (11.9 seconds); 400 (54.54 seconds); high jump (5-06) and long jump (20-03).

Alan Greene recorded a throw of 138-08 in the javelin for the Bruins, while Jamari Signor won the 800 run with a time of 2:21.63.

Hunter Dempsey won the 1,600 for the Riders by posting a time of 5:15.18.

Port Angeles’s Liam Clark won the triple jump with a mark of 37-04.50.

Other winners for the Riders were Jacob Kennedy with a distance of 42-07.75 in the shot put, Paul Van Rossen with a throw of 126-06.25 in the discus and Air Athair, who cleared 11 feet in the pole vault.

Auston Jimmicum won both sets of hurdles for Neah Bay, taking the 110 hurdles in 19.97 seconds and the 300 with a time of 49.4 seconds.

Josey Tyree also won the 3,200 (13:20.47) for the Red Devils.

Neah Bay also picked up two relay race wins.

The 4×100 team of Cameron Buzzell, Chris Tageant, Nathaniel Gamez-LaChester and Joseph Yallup won with a time of 50.14 seconds.

The 4×400 squad of Buzzell, Gamez-LaChester, Jimmicum and Roland Gagnon came out on top with a mark of 4:10.85.

Crescent’s Wyatt McNeese was second in the shot put with a mark of 40-03, and Jacob Baillargeon placed second in the long jump (20-01.50).

Forks boys third

MONTESANO — The Spartans’ boys team finished third (117 points) and the girls fourth (91.5) at a four-team Evergreen League meet with Hoquiam, Montesano and Tenino.

Forks’ Alan Ensastegui (4 minutes, 55 seconds) edged out teammate Austin Pegram by two seconds for a win in the 1,600-meter run.

Pegram finished second in the 800 run with a time of 2:15.97.

Ensastegui and teammate Josue Lucas tied for first in the 3,200 (10:54.68).

Cole Baysinger had a pair of runner-up finishes, posting a high jump of 5 feet, 8 inches and a triple jump of 38-01.5.

Angela Garcia-Moog was the lone Forks female to win an event, posting a time of 7:01.13 in the 1,600.

Marissa Bailey was second for the Spartans in the 800 (2:49.22), and Brynn Peterson finished second in the 300 hurdles with a mark of 1:03.20.

Forks will compete in an Evergreen League meet at Tenino on Thursday, April 12.

PT’s Weidner sweeps sprints

BELLEVUE — Koby Weidner claimed three sprints to pace the Redhawks’ boys team at the three-team Flynn-Vitational at Bellevue Christian High School.

Weidner won the 100-meter sprint with a time of 11.62 seconds, and also claimed the 200 (24.31 seconds) and 400 (54.68 seconds).

Weidner and Kyle Blankenship, Jacob Lundgren and Seren Dances also won the 4×200 relay after finishing in 1:37.83.

Dances won two events for the Redhawks, recording a distance of 21 feet, 3 inches to take the long jump, and posting a mark of 41-11.25 in the triple jump.

On the girls side, Eileen Leoso won two events for Port Townsend.

Leoso leaped 15-07.75 to win the long jump, and 35-00.25 to win the triple jump.

Aubry Botkin won the 100 with a time of 14.29 seconds for the Redhawks and Ari Winter claimed the 400 after finishing in 1:09.43.

Port Townsend’s Leoso, Botkin, Winter and Brenna Franklin were winners in both the 4×100 relay (54.46), and the 4×200 (1:57.16).
