PORT ANGELES — Clallam Bay claimed four event titles at the Class 1B Tri-District Championships at Port Angeles High School.
Molly McCoy was part of three of those titles, helping lead the Clallam Bay girls to a second-place finish at Thursday’s meet.
Individually, McCoy won the 100-meter hurdles, finishing in a person-record time of 17.62 seconds, and the high jump, in which she leaped 4 feet, 8 inches.
McCoy also ran a leg for the first-place 4×100 relay team. She teamed with Atokena Abe, Miriam Wonderly and Jennica Maines to earn the Bruins’ best time (54.03 seconds) of the season by more than a second.
McCoy also helped Clallam Bay’s 4×200 relay qualify for state with a third-place finish.
The Tri-District meet’s top six finishers in each girls event and the top seven in each boys event advance to the Class 1B state championships at Eastern Washington University in Cheney this Thursday through Saturday.
Clayton Willis had Clallam Bay’s other first-place finish, winning a title and setting a new Tri-District record with a long jump of 20 feet, 2.25 inches.
Willis qualified for state in two other individual events, the 400 and the triple jump. He also was the anchor for the Bruins’ 4×400 relay team that squeaked into state with a seventh-place finish.
The Clallam Bay girls have six individual and three relay state qualifiers. The Clallam Bay boys are sending three individuals and one relay.
Crescent’s boys and girls teams have a combined nine individuals and one relay going to state.
Grace Baillargeon and Wyatt McNeece had the Loggers’ top showings at Tri-Districts.
Baillargeon placed second in the girls 400, and McNeece was the runner-up in the boys shot put. He also took third in the discus.
Neah Bay is sending seven individuals, four boys and three girls, and three relays to state.
Hannah Olson had the Red Devils’ top showing with a third-place finish in the long jump.
Mount Vernon Christian won the girls Tri-District team championship by more than 50 points over Clallam Bay. The Crescent girls took fourth.
Evergreen Lutheran is the boys champion. Crescent had the highest North Olympic Peninsula finish at eighth place.

Baysinger wins Southwest District title
TUMWATER — Forks sophomore Cole Baysinger won the Southwest District high jump title with a personal-record-tying 6-foot jump.
Baysinger also finished third and qualified for state with a personal-best discus throw of 132-01.
The top three finishers in each event at Thursday’s district meet at Tumwater High School advance to the Class 1A state championships, which are this Thursday through Saturday at Eastern Washington University in Cheney.
The Spartans have three runners joining Baysinger at state.
Austin Pegram took third in the 400-meter run, Alan Enastastegui took second in the 1,600 and third in the 3,200, and Josue Lucas placed second in the 3,200.
The shorthanded Forks boys placed fifth as a team at the meet.
“The boys actually ended up scoring fifth place down there, which was pretty cool since there were 13 teams,” Spartans coach Pam Gale said.
Eatonville swept the boys and girls team titles.
The Forks girls didn’t have any state qualifiers at the district meet.
“My girls didn’t fare as well, but they are young,” Gale said, “and that’s fine, we had a lot of PRs at the meet.”
Marissa Bailey had the Forks girls’ top showing, a sixth-place finish in the 1,600.
