TRACK AND FIELD ROUNDUP: Clallam Bay boys and girls win North Olympic League titles

PORT ANGELES — Molly McCoy’s four individual event wins led the Clallam Bay girls to a third consecutive league title at the North Olympic League Championship.

The Bruins 87 team points bested Crescent (54) and Neah Bay (28) at Thursday’s meet at Port Angeles High School.

McCoy set a personal-best time of 17.77 seconds to win the 100-meter hurdles. She also won the 300 hurdles with a time of 54.07 seconds.

She also won the high jump and long jump events, clearing 4 feet, 6 inches and recording a mark of 13-10.25, respectively.

Jennica Maines was a dual-event winner for Clallam Bay, taking the 100-meter dash in 14.01 seconds and leaping 28-02 in the triple jump.

Other winners for the Bruins were Miriam Wonderly in the 200 (29.56 seconds), Kendra Anderson in the 800 (3:05.76) and Kaylin Signor with a time of 13:49.59 in the 3,200.

Clallam Bay’s 4×400 relay team of Atokena Abe, Signor, Anderson and Wonderly, won with a mark of 5:05.52.

Raine Westfall led Crescent with wins in the shot put (29-10) and a personal-best discus throw of 84-08.

McKenzie Brannan set a personal record in the javelin, adding nearly three feet to her previous best, with a throw of 99-08 for the Loggers.

Freshman Grace Baillargeon won the 400 for Crescent with a time of 1:08.13, while eighth-grader Chloe Conat claimed the 1,600 in 6:36.48.

The Loggers also won two relay races.

The 4×100 and 4×200 relay teams of Leonie Hofmann, Tena Ward, Hannah Lee and Baillargeon was first with a time of 57.39 seconds and 2:02.31, respectively.

Neah Bay’s best mark was the second-place finish of Charlotte Shaw in the 800 meters.

Shaw’s time of 3:06.54 was less than a second behind Clallam Bay’s Anderson.

It was all Bruins on the boys side as well, as Clayton Willis claimed three individual event wins to help Clallam Bay total 65 points.

Neah Bay was second with 58 points and Crescent third with 46.

Willis won the 400 with a time of 57.76 and the 1,600 in 5:13.66.

He also was first in the long jump with a mark of 18-04.75.

Jamari Signor was tops in the 800 for the Bruins with a time of 2:31.17.

Alan Greene threw the javelin 132-07 to win the event for Clallam Bay.

Neah Bay’s Cameron Buzzell won two individual events and was part of two winning relay teams for the Red Devils.

Buzzell buzzed to victory in the 100 (11.95 seconds) and 200 (24.31).

He teamed with Chris Tagean, Nathaniel Gamez-LaChester and Anthony Bitegeko to win the 4×100 relay with a time of 48.74 seconds and the 4×400 relay in 4:09.56.

Gamez-LaChester cleared 5-04 to win the high jump.

Bitegeko posted a mark of 34-06.75 to win the triple jump.

Neil Peppard won the shot put and discus for Crescent with throws of 37-09.50 and 106-05, respectively.

Jordan Scott was the other event winner for the Loggers, taking the 110 hurdles in 18.16 seconds.

The three schools will be back in action at the North Olympic League Sub-District meet at Port Angeles High School on Thursday.

Noel second for Chimacum

STANWOOD — Trevon Noel led Chimacum with a second-place finish in the discus at the eight-team Stanwood Twilight Invite.

Noel notched a personal-best mark of 142-09 at the event.

Jada Trafton led the Cowboys with a fifth-place finish in 13.03 seconds in the girls 100-meter sprint.
