TRACK AND FIELD: Port Townsend boys win relay at Birger Solberg Invite

BELLINGHAM — Port Townsend’s boys 4×200-meter relay team bested a strong group of Class 4A, 3A and 2A teams at the ninth annual Birger Solberg Invitational, winning the race in one minute, 37.16 seconds.

The win propelled the Redhawks’ boys to a ninth-place finish at the 31-team event held Saturday at Bellingham’s Civic Field.

Relay team members are Koby Weidner, Mark Streett, Brennan LaBrie and Cameron Constantine.

Port Townsend’s 4×800 relay team of Ryan Clarke, Henry Veitenhans, Jesus Duran and Braude came in eighth in 10:02.98.

Clarke had the Redhawks highest-placing individual performance, finishing third in the 3,200 in 9:47.1.

LaBrie was fourth in the 1,600 in 4:45.2 and eighth in the 800 in 2:04.5.

Seren Dances placed fourth for Port Townsend with a distance of 40-0.5 in the triple jump.

Isaiah Mason came away with sixth in the long jump, recording a mark of 19-05.

Jeff Seton earned a seventh-place finish in the discus with a throw of 125.

The Redhawks’ girls team finished 22nd overall.

Hanna Trailer had Port Townsend’s only top-10 finish, taking sixth in the 800 in 2:31.1.

The Redhawks host Sequim, Coupeville and Klahowya at Blue Heron Middle School on Thursday.

Chimacum performs

Chimacum also competed at Saturday’s event, with its girls team finishing 23rd and the boys team not scoring enough points to place.

Bailey Castillo led the Cowboys contingent, throwing the javelin 94 feet, 7 inches to finish eighth in the girls competition.

Chimacum’s Trevon Noel was the highest-placing boy for the Cowboys, finishing 12th in the discus with a throw of 111-10.

The Cowboys compete at Kingston on Thursday.
