PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles boys track team got four first-place finishes from Parker Nickerson and two more from Trevor Martin in dominating North Kitsap and North Mason in the Roughriders’ season-opening meet.
The Roughriders tallied 127 points to 49 for North Kitsap and 20 for North Mason.
Meanwhile, a young Port Angeles girls squad with 15 freshmen and sophomore had a solid meet, coming in a very close second to North Kitsap. The Vikings collected 73 points and the Riders 70. North Mason had 53. Faerin Tait won three events for the girls, while Leia Larson won two.
Nickerson, who placed at the 2A state track meet last year, placed first in the 300-meter hurdles (42.21 seconds), the 110 hurdles (16.57, a personal record), the long jump (19 feet, 1 inch) and the triple jump (39-7½).
Martin won a pair of field events. He took first in the shot put (36-9½) and the discus (111-5).
Other Port Angeles winners included Jason Hawes with a personal-record 11.62 in the 100-meter dash. Tymur Lytvak won the 400 meters in a time of 54.10 and Jayden McLarty won the 1,600 (5:05.76, a personal record).
Hunter Flores picked up a first place in the javelin with a personal-record throw of 123-3 and Jude Wallace won the pole vault with his own personal-record height of 10-6. Dallas Dunning won the high jump with a leap of 5-8.
Just behind Nickerson in the hurdles was Tanner McLean. He finished second in the 110 in 17.82 and second in the 300 in 45.76.
Nickerson’s teammate Brody Pierce was second in the long jump at 17-9 and second in the triple jump at 39-1, both personal records.
Finn Thompson was second in the 400 (56.9) and Easton Dempsey was second in the 800 (2:08.93). Andre Campbell was second in the 3,200 (11:31.03).
Hawes showed both speed and strength by coming in second in the shot put (36-½). Joseph Ritchie was second in the discus (93-5) and Cooper Berry second in the pole vault (9-0).
The boys 4×100 relay team of Kaiden Point, Dylan Williams, Martin and Hawes finished second in 46.94 seconds, and the 4×400 relay of Liam Wilson, Logan Wilson, Cole Winters and Henry Zelenka, all freshmen, was second at 4:04.22.
Girls
Tait won both hurdling events, taking first in the 100 (17.46) and in the 300 (51.46). She also won the 200 (29.58).
Larson, a distance specialist, won the 800 (2:33.5) and the 1,600 (5:47.37). Teanna Clark won the triple jump with a distance of 30-9.
The girls tallied a lot of second-place finishes. Miriam Cobb was second to Larson in the 800 (2:56.23), while Clarissa Sprague was second in the shot put (25-9) and the discus (71-0).
Kayla Grant was second in the high jump (4-2), Paige Mason finished second in the long jump (14-6) and Brooke Pierce was second in the triple jump (29-5).
In the relays, the girls 4×200 team (Harper McGuire, Zoe Ernst, Mason and Madison Pilatti) came in second (2:01.7) while the 4×400 team (Pierce, Cobb, McGuire and Mirabel Palacios) also finished second (5:07.69).
